My bunny has been having a wet chin recently where his fur is kind of matted and stuck together. He was just recently in the vet for teeth problems and had a check-up which the vet said everything looked all good. So I’m not sure if its teeth alignment as I don’t think anything could change really within a week. He does drink out of a bowl as well. His chin does not seem inflamed or irritated at all either, just stuck together and a bit smelly. Is this normal?

Given he has dental problems, Im guessing this could be because he’s drooling. Since he has recently seen the vet, perhaps you can call them and report the latest development?  I read in your other thread that he had finished the meds he was on. Was this for pain relief? Have you noticed the wet chin since he stopped the meds? The vet could give some more if they think it would help.

My other thought is: could he be dipping his chin in the water to soothe his mouth? Or drinking more then usual? Does he have any difficulty drinking?

I wonder if you could give him a sipper bottle but keep the bowl of water also. If he is curious enough, he might give the bottle a try… If he takes to drinking from that instead, that could help dry the fur if it is getting wet just from the water. If it is drooling, he will most likely need to be seen again, Im afraid.

The fur/skin can get a bit smelly. It did for my rabbit that had dental problems. Some of his fur came away there also. If it’s drool, it can be just that making it smell but when the fur is constantly wet, they can develop a bacterial infection & “moist dermatitis” on the skin which contributes to smell also.

His meds were for antibiotics, stasis, and inflammation. He did lose a molar as well which he isn’t used to. I’ve noticed that he has had more of a wet chin since the meds but he’s also drinking a lot more water. It doesn’t sound like he is in any pain drinking water and he did just start eating a lot more hay than he’s ever done before which I know makes them extra thirsty, so his chin is more in the water than usual. The smell is more like the smell from his chin gland and the hair is stuck together like it’s more waxy than usual.

Overall he’s been drinking and eating a ton, along with pooping so it doesn’t seem like he’s in any pain that’s why I was unsure if it’s a dental problem or something else.

Heres some pictures of his chin. Sorry, they are blurry, he wouldn’t stop moving!

                  Are there lumps?

I’ve tried to point out an area. Is this yellowish white stuff in his fur? I’m wondering if he had an abscess and the stuff is pus.

No lumps just skin folds and the white/red is his skin. His skin looks a bit red-ish. I noticed this morning that when he drinks from his bowl his chin area gets completely wet so it might be the constant wetness irritating his skin. I ordered a bottle drip to see if that helps

That’s right, their skin can get irritated from being continuously wet.

Is this an area he can reach to groom or chew the fur?

This is mainly right under his mouth. I see him try to groom it using his tongue and his hands but I’m sure it’s difficult to reach compared to the areas farther down.
