› FORUM › DIET & CARE › wet butt and tail pooping every where
so tonks has been pooping everywhere these past 2 weeks. I even caught her peeing on the kitchen floor and couch!! Now I noticed that her butt and tail or totally wet with pee!!! What should I do?
She has gotten a little fat. Is she too fat to clean herself.
I have not changed ANYThing her diet is the same. 1/4 cup pellets Timothy hay all day and green veggies in 2 times a day. I have not given her a treat in a week. And even then it was only 2 raisins.
I have not changed her little ( I use yesterdays news mixed with wood stove pellets) She has a big box and I change it ever day. Sometimes it’s every other day but mostly every day.
She is fixed.
I don’t know if I should changed litters. That litter has never been a problem before. Butt she is really stinky.
She had a bout last spring with pooping every where then just stopped. She usually uses her litter box ALL the time.
eek! Help
She might have been wet if she peed on the floor as there’s nothing there to soak it up. She could have even sat in it. Paper and wood pellets are one of the best litters for odour control so if you can still smell her urine, it’s smelly etc, I’d be concerned she is having bladder issues. I think a visit to the vet in in order. Rabbits can pee outside the litter box when they are ill. If she isn’t cleaning herself, this is concerning too. Def vet check for urine screen and weight check!
She was in her xpen all day while I was at work and there didn’t seem to be any pee on the floor in there. She’s a little fat but not horribly. I see her cleaning herslef but I don’t know for sure what areas she can and cannot get. She get tons of run time. 4-5 hours a day then on the weekends I leave her out all day. I don;t give her many treats but mabye I need to cut back on her pellets. She gets 1/4 cup a day.
I will watch her for another day or so and if no improvment with the wet butt i’ll take her to the vet.
thanks
Hi again, I’m just going to put link here from your another post in Behaviors from a few days ago. That way, anyone can read both and see if their related. https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/3/postid/87058/view/topic/Default.aspx
Did you have a different box in the x-pen? Had she used one while you were away? She may be refusing her box for some reason, litter of size. Else she could be marking but you would think she’d mark her pen and not the sofa!
What sort of box do you use? Maybe get a bigger one. The novelty of a new one might entice her back to the box. I still would get her to vet soon though if this isn’t resolved as she will be at risk of getting urine scold also. You can give her a dry bath by brushing cornflour (corn starch)thru her fur if you want.
It could also be a urinary tract infection – the wet tail could be an indication of that.
Yes, I think she should see a vet to rule out any physical problem before trying behavioral things to fix it.
I’m taking her to the vet tomorrow. I wonder if i’ll get lab results the same day?
Sometimes but generally they have to send them out as they don’t have the equipment on site, and it can take a few days {{VIBES}}
I think it is definitely a good idea that you are taking her to the vet – the sudden change in litter habits could definitely be related to an illness. I was also thinking a UTI like Sarita mentioned, I hope you can get an answer from the vet soon!
poor Tonks! let us know how everything goes at the vet.
your diet sounds good. for a standard size rex, i think 1/4 cup pellets are fine.
Ok so she does not have a UTI . She has a fungal infection (dermatits) he said almost like a yeast infection. They gave her a steroid injection and some antibiotics and they gave her butt a really good bath. They sent me home with the special shampoo to use 3 times a week for the next 2 weeks and more antibiotics. He said there is nothing I can really do to prevent it. Just to keep and eye on her butt and maybe once a month or so with that shampoo.
I checked her butt when I was washing it before but it was more behind the fur. She was really red and sore. He said that is most likely whats causing her not to use her litter box like she normally does because it’s probably hurting her when she pees.
I took her to the Vets office in PetSmart (Banfield) they specialize in exotic pets. They were very reasonably priced and they trimmed her nails for free!
Oh well just wanted to give you the update on Tonks!! She was a champ during the visit!!!
Thanks for all the advice! I always appreciate it!!
So this morning when I got up Tonks only had 2 stray poops in her cage and no pee anywere. What a difference a day can make with meds!! Seens she is already back to her normal litter trained self!! YAY
Oh that’s great to hear!!!! I’m so glad your vet figured it out and Tonks is already on the mend!!
That’s great! I’m glad you went to see the vet and discovered what it was. I’m sure Tonks feels better already.
She’s a beautiful bunny and I’m so glad she’s doing better!
oh good!!! way to go tonks!
Thanks for the update. A great outcome! Glad you took her in, sound like it was something definately difficult to remedy on your own. Happy to hear treatment is helping Tonks so quickly!
