And of course we had to go into the rabbit/cavy/duck/goat house….
I’ve never seen so many rabbits in one place. Or cavies either. But we really didn’t look at them much. The bunnies had all our attention.
It’ was a miserable day too. Wet. Rainy. Cold. But I’ve been bombarded with cuteness. I come away happy and sad at the same time. They are all so beautiful. But they are all housed in wire cages with no proper bottoms on them (yes, I am sure this is the way it’s been done for years) and one mini rex that had a ribbon on it’s cage was pacing back and forth like a lion waiting for it’s dinner. I have never seen a rabbit PACE before. 0_o
I just wanted to rip it off the wall and drag it off with me. Lord have mercy, it made me sick!
There were Flemmies too, but they don’t look as big as I thought they would…but still they are good size! ![]()
And three Angoras! OMG, I see why one would fall in love with this particular breed, they are drop-dead gorgeous! *squee!*
One bun that won a blue ribbon actually belonged to an old neighbor of mine. I had forgotten she raised rabbits! A beautiful little grey and white American fuzzy lop. Just calm as could be, snoozing in the bottom of her cage. Didn’t seem to mind the publicity one bit. lolz….
But even after seeing all these bunnies, it took going back into my local pet store to get my heart thumping over another rabbit. I went in to get a decent filter for my goldifsh, as the one we’ve been using for years just doesn’t cut it anymore. And there, in the stupid snake tank thing…it’s STILL THERE.
The little broken torti lop that I about fainted over about a month or so ago from how adorable it was the first time I saw it. Reminded me of Mimzy, but the coloring is different. It came out as we passed the tank a second time, it had been hiding in one of those plastic castle thingummies they put in there for a shelter.
And oh….I am jonesing BIG time, wishing I could ask the hubby if we can adopt it.
I don’t want to support the pet store, but this one just calls to me. It killed me not to beg my husband then and there to bring it home. I still feel the house is not complete without three…I don’t know why.
And I have to wonder, no idea on the gender (they are fixed though) if it would get along with the other two or would I have a third night pen set up in the bunny room? Would that even work out if he caved and said I could adopt this little waif?
I’m not hopping right down there to scoop the bun up…giving others a chance for happiness here…as I have no doubt this little sweetie will make SOMEONE happy-and hopefully will be reciprocated…but am I wrong to wish it was me?
I keep feeling like it’s still there…because it’s waiting for me. Stupid, huh? But that’s how we got Pip.
*sigh* Just wish I could take them all home…yanno? *headdesk* But it will probably be gone by the next time we go in and I just don’t have the cajones to ask. I SHOULDN’T ask.

Poor MimzMum! I suppose only you can decide whether the bun is for you or not…
Petstores in my neck of the woods don’t have buns for sale. It makes sense, on the one hand, to boycott a store that sells rabbits. But on the other hand, the RABBIT didn’t choose to be there…he/she deserves a proper home no matter where he/she came from… Sometimes it seems, when people stumble across these poor rabbits in petstores, that they feel like they need to make martyrs of the buns in the stores, for the benefit of rabbits as a whole… Martyrdom sucks. The situation sucks. Poor bunny just wants a home and some love, whether they’re in a shelter or a petstore… I have no answer.
On another note, Thumper paces. It’s probably a product of his not getting let out of his cage enough before we bunny-napped him. But now it’s his response to anything he wants done faster or more! Lizzy gets fed first…he hops back and forth until we feed him. I come home and he’s happy to see me, he hops back and forth! It’s a little neurotic, but totally cute too!
Mimzum I can totally relate. I am VERY anti-petstore. But Olivia broke my heart and I caved and bought her, just to get her out of there. I had to go in the local chain pet store in the spring to get something I needed my usual supplier was out of and I saw her, full grown in a tiny class cage, almost unable to lay down and I was so sad. Two weeks later she was still there and had a terrible eye infection. I had to help her, so I haggled the pet store and got her for 10 bucks (bunnies usually are 40 and up). She is the sweetest little lady, I don’t regret my decision.
I say do what your heart tells you and you wont regret it, but if he’s been there for a while make sure you make them lower the price (which will make you feel less bad about giving them $). Let us know what you decide.
Thanks everyone! LPT, I remember the saga about Olivia, I followed that like a bloodhound. ^_^ How is she doing, btw? I haven’t seen you post about her lately? Or maybe my old eyes are just crap. lolz….
This was the way we got Pippi. She’d been there for 6 months easy! My daughter paid full price for her though. I don’t think Petco is particularly interested in haggling, but I suppose we could give it a shot.
Well, keep fingers crossed. I think I might bring it up with the hubby this week if the bun is still there, If it’s not, well, it wasn’t meant to be. ^_^
EDIT: Oh, and the bun in your avatar just happens to have the almost same broken torti pattern that the one in the store does. Just imagine the ears loppy. ![]()
That’s awesome the bunny looks like Stormy. He must be extremely handsome
Olivia is doing great! Thanks for asking! I havent posted any pics in a while, I guess some are due soon. She’s such a good bunny. She loves to come out for a run. I think she has ADHD. She’s insanely hyper! The only problem I’m having is she still freaks out when she’s picked up despite how often and carefully she’s being handled. I assume some kids or someone handled her very roughly in the past.
Let us know what you decide! When I told my bf about Olivia at the petstore I was accepting a huge begging session but he was totally for it, he wanted to help her too.
Well we have quite a few animals right now…and Mim & Pip were supposed to be the last ones. Plus the cost of everything is so insane right now, I need to keep expenses in mind.
Hmmm….
Trade ya my hubby for your bf? lolz…..
Pip is an ADHD bun for sure. She just never settles down it seems. She is relatively good about being handled though, being a petstore bun. Mimzy is the handful.
And of course there is the bonding issue. Mim & Pip will put up with each other to a point. But since each wants to be top bun, and often at the exact same moment, it is hard to keep them together for a whole day. No serious fighting or anything…but enough dominance behavior to irritate the beans out of me.
Don’t know if that would get better or worse with a third…. :-/
