I posted a couple weeks back that my Dutch was having a problem standing. I ended up taking him to an emergency vet after he started sounding like he had to blow his nose when he would breath. Nothing showed on the Xray including arthritis but the vet thought he might have Snuffles. He’s on Baytril and has been  on it for two weeks tomorrow. He’s on .9ml 2x a day. He’s gotten progressively worse and now is having a hard time standing and rolling. I’m angry because I practically begged the other vet to do something for him and I took him back several times and spen a lot of money for her to do nothing. I’ve now found him somewhere else to go but I’m so angry that he’s been suffering and this vet did nothing. I pray that he can recover somewhat from this experience. I will be taking him back to the vet because today is when he started to have problems standing and seems to be rolling a lot. He also is doing this weird thing with his head going up and down.

Oh no!!! That’s awful! I hope that the new vet you are taking him to will be able to help him out. Kinda seems to me that the other vet didn’t really take the time or effort to look more into what was causing these problems… Definatly take him to this other vet so he can get better…..

First {{ VIBES }} for your bun and you!

Second I totally understand that, it’s terrible to have someone you trust in the medical field mess something up like that. And to boot pay for it.

It sounds like it could be Paturella or E. Cuniculi, or even something else perhaps…Is your new vet testing to find out what it is? Gosh I can surely understand your frustration and we’re here for you, vent away when you need to *hugs*

I am SOOO sorry for you and your bun! I hope the new vet is better. I can totally empathize with your anger toward your old vet. My old vet was the same way. It seemed like they’d told that office, “If any rabbit comes in, offer them these 2 meds,” (Baytril was one of them), and that was the extent of their treatment.

Your poor bun…good luck to you both!

that’s very frustrating! it’s worth it to learn a bit about rabbit medicine just so you have a general knowledge and you can respectfully bring things up if your vet does not mention it… the head tilt can be a symptom of e. cuniculi…

Vets I would be mad too.   You will probably do better with the 2nd  vet you are taking bun to.

Get well vibes and good vet help vibes.

He’s doing better going for a recheck this weekend. His meds were increased but he’s still having some bouts of being unbalanced.I am feeling better about his progress.

Could he have an inner ear infection?  I know that the tilt often makes us feel e.cun…but since he had a previous diagnosis of “snuffles” AKA head cold, could it have progressed into an ear infection or sinusitis?  Hope he feels better soon.

Popper had another check up today and the vet changed the meds. He gave him SMZ/TMP Bene-Bac and Gentamcin for his eyes. Overall the vet felt he was doing well but thought it time to give another antiobitc because he still sound congested after weeks of the Baytril and he has some runny eyes.

To me it sounds like it could easilly be E.C. since he’s having so many different symptoms -particularly the head motion and problems standing up.
