I got these at Dr.’s F&S because I am getting fed up with my PETCO bottles and thought these would be ideal for the buns. But after seeing how the spigot is designed…I am not so sure….
Who was the other member here who has the Water Buddy? Does yours look like this? I can’t imagine that nasty little metal tip is anything safe for a bunny’s delicate tongue to lap over? 0_o And of course, the picture at the vendor’s site does not show the tip at all, so I wasn’t expecting that.
Opinions, please?
I’ve seen those too. Have no idea how they really work with a little bunny mouth, but I recommend smearing some banana or something yummy on it and see if they get the hang of it that way.
Let us know if they end up using it.
I got one.
It’s been sitting attached to Sammy’s cage for 2 weeks and she completely ignores it. I have had other things going on during my days off, so didn’t take the time to “train” her to use it. Just hung it up over her usual water crock. (The crock say’s “Diva” on the bottom. So true.)
I think it’s a good idea and possibly a good design. What I need to do is remove her crock, show her how to use it, and then see if she does. The banana idea is excellent, so when I get serious about it I’ll try that. Maybe this week. I’ll let you know.
I think Katnip recommended this bottle. She says they are great and I know she wouldn’t use anything that could be unsafe or cause harm.
I have one! Someone on here was talking about it and I ordered it afterwards. I thought it would have looked different too. I saw the pointy thing and I’m like I dunno abou this. But I think they bite on it or something. It took them awhile to get the hang of it but they use it now. The weird thing is that I bought 2 (one for each bun) and for some reason they prefer the one that I took the stickers off of the bottle. Maybe if I take the stickers off the other one they’ll use both haha! I caught them taking turns at the one today.
I love it because it doesn’t leak, at all! The other water bottle I used leaked all the time.
I have that bottle and really like it. The bunnies do not need to “lick” the stem- just pushing it aside lets the water flow. They do not have to lick and lick to get water- as with a traditional bottle that needs to let air bubbles escape up. The bottle is not airtight- so the pressure stabilizes without making the rabbit work at the ball bearings (like in traditional bottle).
All of my bunnies figured it out right away- but maybe because I was swapping cages for bonding and they could smell water/the other bunny on the spout.
I love that they do not leak and they are quiet. I would show your bunnies how to use them and that the water comes from there.
Ah…I was wondering how they were supposed to manage that. I’m just hoping that Pip, who tends to blaze over to her bottle and shove her face onto the spigot, won’t impale herself the first time she gives this one a go on her own. 0_o
Well, I have had just about all I can take from the drippy/leaky/impossible to remove the washer bottles that I use now, I had to try something else. I’ll see if Fiver can manage this first, he’s the thinker of the group. (Although Mimzy is the one with the love affair with bananas…lolz.)
Thanks for the replies! And thank you, Kat, for all the info! ![]()
Hi, Mimzmum!
Do bunnies not do well with a crock? I gave up on a bottle after 30 seconds and went with a crock, and haven’t had a single problem (other than when the dumb human is vacuuming, and shoves the pen aside too fast, forgetting, the water-filled crock attached…but I suppose I can’t blame that on the buns!). Just curious…
(Missed you and creatures…hope all is well…I’m so out-of-date, and hate to bring up, but how is your puppy….?)
LC! (((((big hugs)))))))) I’m so happy to see you!
First off, yes, Shadow is doing quite well…you are talking about his stomach surgery, yes? (don’t remember if you were MIA at that time)
He’s back to his uppity self, but he tends to overdo still so we’re keeping him as mellow as possible. We are NOT going through that nightmare ride in to the vet again if it’s the last thing I do!
And no, I’m afraid my bunnies have been all bottle for the two year I’ve had them. They get their pellets out of a crock, but when I try to fill one with water they just tip it over. (What? No pellets? *shove*)
MM ((((BIG HUGS BACK!!!)))
I am SOOO glad Shadow is doing well! Poor doggie! Does he have his hair back, yet?
Back to topic, I guess (!!!), my crocks attach to the pen so they can’t tip over.
I want to know how your buns are doing!!!! If you have a moment, drop me a note so I don’t annoy everybody else with my being off-topic! Kisses to your bunny-brood (whether they like it or not!)!

Hey chica…I’d drop you an email, but I can’t find the link to PM you on your profile…but to quickly answer your q…basically the bunnies are good. Mimzy finally got over his head full of snot (he had branhamella for about a month) and he was the reason I got this terrific new vet who saved Shadow’s life during his gastric torsion episode. (He’s still a fuzzy ball of fluff…the hair is taking FOREVER to regrow!)
This week, I get to take Fiver in because he is having poopy butt problems that may be extending to a full blown infection if I don’t get it under control.
Pip is her usual bossy self. She has been given some extra nice bunny beds for her pen, since she is too big to get up a ramp to her sleeping shelf and now she does binkies every morning across the floor of her night pen at about 5 AM. My new early wake up call. >_< Sounds like the cavalry is coming over the hill! 0_o
The profile pages have changed, haven’t they… I tried to blip over and send you my e-mail address, and can’t find a way to message you… Hopefully this is something that is getting fixed with the upgrades?
Well, I’m not current on the upgrades myself, but I assume most of the old board functions will come back… *hopes*
(goes to check Technical section)
LL – the profile will be up and running and even fancier than before when we are done. ![]()
