Okay, it’s taken Fiver to show me what a putz I am about bonding my other two bunnies.
I have bent over backwards to make sure Fiver’s areas of play and sleep stay as constant as possible, even minimal clean up after he makes a mess so that his scent stays as strong as possible, this put a quick end to marking poops and such.
But I’ve been frustrated as to why my other two, besides not being housed together yet, haven’t established a firm bond and tend to mark with poop and pee, or use dominance behavior, or just in general not get along….
…
Well DUH! *sigh* I’ve been taking down the xpen every night after they use it all day and cleaning the floor and litter box and putting the playthings away, we have limited room for this activity area, and then when I set it up in the morning again, it doesn’t matter how close I come to how it was the day before…it doesn’t SMELL right and things are NOT where they left them the previous night! Their mental maps are all screwed up and they are confused! No wonder they are having so much trouble feeling comfortable! They are too busy trying to figure out what has changed from yesterday to concentrate on being cuddly today!
I am SO stupid! >.<
Just makes me more determined that the bunnies shall have THEIR OWN ROOM, where nothing is so different that they cannot feel at home and they can be together with each other all the time.
Oooo, keep your fingers crossed that I’ve hit the mark finally. And if any of you have told me this before and I was too dense to hear it, THANK YOU! ^_^
FOR SALE: Quaint one story house on small lot in swamp. Efficiency kitchen, old appliances. 1 1/2 bathrooms (oh, you wanted a bathtub too?). Faces north. Two closets, uh, bedrooms. Third large “family room” with double doors to kitchen for guests, office, or small demanding pets. Edible carpet. Corner built in litter pans. AC in this room only. Built in shelves on one wall available for supplies, toys, and pictures of humans. As is.
MM: sounds perfect. I’ll take it.
I think that can be an issue as they do like to have things in the same place all the time. I found that Maryann began to stop being overly aggressive towards Dono as soon as I left the kitchen the way it was from bonding session to bonding session. Ate a lot of takeout that month…
Hm, and as I just posted in “Poor Fiver” the whole point may be moot if Mimzy has decided that Pip is just NOT the bun for him. (But I’m sure they’d still like things set a certain way and left so. I’ll still work towards that goal.)
I posted this response there, but in case you come here first, please see my new post in Bonding called “Here’s a strange…”
I’d love your opinion.
hahahaha Markus – that is too funny! Also incredibly nice of you to give up your kitchen for the sake of the love of Dono and Maryann!
Teehee…we have frozen dinners/take out just about all the time too, simply because I hate to heat up the oven and have the bunnies get all cooked out sitting next to it in their xpen.
I keep thinking about the Binky Member who said she had to yell, “Coffee!”, any time a loud noise was going to happen because her bunnies were scared of the coffee grinder, so any loud noise became associated with it.
Geeze…the lengths we go to keeping the peace in the burrow!
I think you hit the nail on the head Mimz!! Let us know how it goes!!
keep us posted! hopefully things will move along quicker now!
OH, that’s not the half of it. They got the bathroom for 2 weeks during final bonding – which was a real joy trying to get anything done in there. And as I have just mentioned in another post, I gave up my bedroom for them! They now have that and I sleep on the couch. I am planning on getting a new futon style sofa this christmas so that I can sleep a little better but they’ve had the bedroom for six months now.
I’m looking at the possibility of doing the same thing. It’s the only room in the house that they could have all to themselves, with a door that can be closed so they are bugged by felines (or obnoxious teenagers) and a window to keep cool with in the summer.
But…I don’t know where I would sleep! 0_0 Never mind where all my junk would go!
Markus I had no idea you gave up your bedroom for them!! That’s so sweet!!
If you and your GF move in your gonna need a two bedroom and you’ll all still be on the couch!! LOL ![]()
Nah, I’ll just stick the girlfriend into another cage in the bun’s room.
She’s kinky like that…
! you need a sex swing, im sure that can be fashioned into a sleeping position, can be put in every other way anyway haha
MM: sounds perfect. I’ll take it.
lol! small demanding pets! sounds about right!
