….looks who’s here! xD
Okay you guys, I think I’ve caught my limit. lolz….
Remember how sad I was the other week when the little lop eared harlequin was already bought from Petco? BB had told me that the right one would come along and choose me when I was ready.
This little sweetie was in Petco today, tucked away behind the Halloween costumes for small dogs and stuff. My daughter spotted him (or her, we’re not sure yet) and the minute I caught his eye, I couldn’t walk away. He was FREE. Poor little thing had been living in basement conditions and then went to a lady who had small children, so he’s a little skittish about being picked up.
I knew bunny #3 had to be around somewhere, but I wasn’t expecting this.
Appears to be a mini-rex. VERY snuggly once he’s firmly in your arms. Blowing his coat currently, and the background on him says he’s a year old. Rides beautifully in the car. I am only mildly concerned about his hips, they seem a little ‘splayed out’ to me, but I’m wondering if that’s just the breed style?
I have yet to check his teeth and gender him. I will be making an appointment to make sure he is healthy and then…well, we may be seeing 3 bunnies bonding on my kitchen floor soon!
Haven’t decided on a name yet, but if it’s a boy, because of how timid and easily shaken he is, I’m thinking of Fiver. ![]()
EDIT Sorry about the double post folks! The board is really messing with me lately.
Would a kind admin please delete one of these? Thankies! ![]()

OMG, what a darling! Oh so sweet! I’m so happy you rescued him and are giving him a new forever home. And I love the name Fiver – a friend of mine had a VERY special bunny named Fiver.
OH mimz!!! That’s awesome!!!! There’s always another one! He adorable too!!
Hey Mimzmum Congratulations. He/she (I think HE) looks lush – that fur. Really lovely head shape too. Fiver’s a great name and it’s unisex. Lion_Lop’s thinking of naming one of the babies Six so I’m seeing a pattern developing here!
ps. I never heard that biscuit phrase before but it certainly gets ones attention! LOL
LOL, we’ll have a board full of number bunnies
He is adorable!!! Congrats on the ‘rescue’!!
Wow, (s)he is gorgeous! Congratulations!
Congratulations, MM!![]()
Markus is right = take the vallium. He sounds just fine, and the only difference between a mini rex and others is that they are wonderfully perfect and so sweet that they won’t let you tell the others so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings. (This is from my vast experience of one bunny of course.)
His back hips do stick out, but I didn’t think they looked particularly abnormal, and if he’s doing 500s I doubt that they are splayed at all. I believe it’s their shape more or less. Your rex has a rounder head than Spockie’s, which is very cute. That might elongate with age also. Sometimes I thought S.’s body took on the most bizarre shape changes, depending on his position, age, recent food consumption, etc. He had big round belly and slim hips one year, then prominent back end and more of a pear shape at another time. Who knows? I am attaching a photo taken from above that shows a bit of a hip protrusion in similar meatloaf pose, but harder to notice due to coloring. See what the vet says. I think with a tiny bit of fat he will seem “smoother.”
I’m glad he may be a boy since he can’t be pregnant. Get thee to a vet soon. I’m already confused by thinking Mimzy is the girl and Pip the boy from their names.
Fiver is a great name! (And in a week you could bring home a little dwarf that 4 boys return to the pet store…) Kidding.
Mimz – he’s absolutely adorable!! Great pictures. Keep us posted!
He’s pretty – do you know how old he might be?
wow he is so lovely, im a little confused (sorry probably just me being stupid!) but have u actually brought him home yet? or are u just considering it?
How handsome! I had heard somewhere that mini rexes were pretty high strung and didn’t really like to be bothered by people. I was a little bit afraid that Digger would stop seeking us out but so far he still loves his pets and will happily jump in a lap to be petted. I plan to do more reading on rex temperament…but if they’re mostly like Digger I’d love to adopt a standard one day.
sorry answered my own post, saw this one before the others, ooops! congrats ![]()
I’m on my way to delete the other post – but o my WORD he is adorable
Beautiful and snuggly soft at the same time!
Also, I’ve found that a great way to get skittish bunnies to warm up to you is to hand feed them a treat once a day. Yesterday my husband got my most skittish bunny to stand on my head to get a treat (he didn’t tell me thats why he made me lie down on the floor, I found out when all of a sudden their were bunny feet in my ear).
hehe aww!
lolz @ MooBunnay! xD I will give that a try…actually I tried hand feeding him a craisin last night, but he was having none of it, so he isn’t trained for that yet. But I noticed after I dropped it and looked away for a bit it disappeared.
Snuggly soft..lolz…the new spokesbun for Snuggle fabric softener. xD I have that disapproving bun around here somewhere that says, “Lady you got the wrong critter!”
Thanks everybun!
Your well wishes bring tears of joy to my eyes and remind me that it’s always so nice to log on here first thing in the morning to start my day!
Pam, that piccy of Spockie is as adorable as all his other piccies! ^_^ I’d forgotten he was a rex, wasn’t he? Thanks for showing it. Yes, I see the rex shape does seem to be more angular than most buns. And I do think Fiver might be a little underweight, so….
I wonder too if their fur has anything to do with how parts of them seem to stick out an odd angles? Since it’s so rumply and all? :-/
I’m wondering if I should take him out of his pen much during the first few days here or if I should let him get used to where he is? I don’t want him to miss exercise though, as he seems to really need some. He stretches weird (to me) and extends his rear legs out behind him like a sprint runner. I think he’s been copped up too much already and maybe some time out will help him calm down.
Although he slept quietly next to me all night, the little dear. ^_^ He was backed up as close as he could get to me, but showing me the bunny butt so I didn’t get the idea that he was looking for comfort. Not a peep out of him and the only toy I got to bring with me from the store was a little jingle ball that was with him when I adopted him. He didn’t touch it till this morning when he saw I was up and moving around, then he batted it a bit and looked very pointedly at me. So he got his breakfast right away. ^_^
I think Mimzy might be feeling a little jealous though. He was watching me in standard vulture form from his perch from first light on and throwing his litterbox this a.m. Hasn’t done that in a LOOONG time! So I got up and refreshed HIS hay, then gave him a blueberry treat and he did night pen binkies for about 5 minutes straight after that. lolz….
Pip is just doing the usual…looking down on the newcomer with her classic disapproval loaf and parsley garnish…LMAO.
The store said Fiver is about 1 1/2 years old. He is supposed to be neutered. I see two tattoo dots in his right ear. The marking I was concerned about on his chin is actually a spot of brown fur coloring. And he has this lovely little white marking in the brown fur on his head that reminds my son of the symbol on the shogi piece in Animal Crossing, so he wants to call him “Shogi”…So maybe his name will officially be Fiver Shogi Minimus Rex. ^_^ He certainly hit his lucky feng shui day yesterday!
Yah, I hear you Pam, about the other little bunny. >_< Urgh….sometimes you just want to BEAT people!
Okies, I hope I answered everyone’s questions and posts!
Will do about the pictures, I can’t seem to stop snapping them of him, but I’ll try not to go overboard. I can tell the flashy box isn’t his favorite toy. ;P
Oh, MM, he’s LOVELY! Congratulations! I’m so glad you found the little guy! I’m sure he’s just playing hard to get, and soon he’ll be so happy to have a real home, he’ll be crawling all over you! I hope he turns into a cuddle-bunny for you..that’d be a nice balance to the disapproving Pip and lazy-bun Mimzy, I think! And he’s SO PRETTY!
Oh, and “butter my bum”? *snort!*
“Butter my bun” would make more sense, but might be confusing in the context of THIS site!
LOL!
*gigglesnort* I got it out of a catalog, it uses a different word for the ‘bum’ and it’s written on a welcome mat. ^_^ Love your correction though! xD
Congrats on the new bun! He’s gorgeous and I’m sure he’ll settle into his new home!
PS: your title made me hungry
lolz @ Rachel
Should I be worried? xD
The odd thing was, there was a little harlequin lionhead female in the other pen of bunnies for sale. But it looked to be so confrontational with the other bunnies I thought, Um, I think that one has issues and Mim & Pip just wouldn’t understand.
If we hadn’t gone ’round to look at other things in the store, we would’ve missed Fiver. I CAN’T understand why he was tucked away like he was, no one could see him unless you were having a dog groomed.
Wow, harlequin and lionhead at once might be cuteness overload for me.
Speaking of cuteness overload, this is the coolest rabbit I’ve ever seen:

OMG! BUNNY TONGUE! xD
Aw what a cutie-pie!
That is some fancy coloring. Do you know this bunny or was it one you just found on the web?
What an adorable rabbit Mimz!!! Coingrats!!
Dig-where did you find those pictures? That’s a beautiful rabbit!!
The bun was on Daily Bunny last year and has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Oh!
That’s so sad! It was a beautiful bunny! ;_;
Isn’t it odd how we can see pix like this and think they are current? Time seems to stand still on the web, doesn’t it?
Oh what a bonza bunny you found Mimz .. gorgeous as.
Oh what a bonza bunny you found Mimz .. gorgeous as.
i cant wait to see more pics mimz! when are you gonna start bonding?
Well, Fiver is going to have to be seen by the vet first, just to insure good health. Then, (and I posted about this in Behavior), I think he’s going to have to learn to trust us a bit more. He is VERY easily scared and confrontational if you push him too far. My guess is, he had to deal with ornery little boys and they weren’t too kind to him.
I think the bonding with the other bunnies will be cathartic for all of them. It might encourage Mim & Pip to be a little more gentle with each other and I think one or the other is going to want to protect the little guy. Hopefully without turning on each other.
Currently though, I think Mim is a bit miffed. He peed on my bed for the first time yesterday (proximity to the new bun, I’m sure) and he just seem like he was going overboard to gain my attention yesterday. So I have to be able to make peace with all of them.
maybe a good way to start would be to move them kinda close together? so they can smell each other but hopefully wont freak out about their being a new bunny!
mimz!!! congrats on your new bundle of fur
fiver is so squishy cute… please give him lots of soft kisses from me!
No worries, K&D, I am sure Mimzy and Pip are well aware there’s a new bun in the house. ^_^ He’s right across the street, so to speak. (I’d say there’s only five feet separating them and they are in full view/sniff of each other.)
And the other day I let Mim out on my bed, since he hadn’t been there for cuddles in awhile and I was preparing to take him out to the xpen. He actually went up to Fiver’s pen and sniffed it quite a few times, then wandered around the bed like he usually does and just when I was about to move him out to the kitchen…I lift him up and there’s a big pee spot on my bed! First, and hopefully last, time that gets to happen.
He was definitely letting Fiver know that he’d better not have any designs on his momma!
But yeah, I did some serious laundry that day. >.<
Thanks again, everybun, for all the well wishes. ^_^ I just hope I can make the little guy’s life happy.
Today, he began exploring the bed for himself for the first time. I just let the door down on his pen and let him come out at his own pace. He didn’t go far and any touch on his body had him headed back to the door, but you can see he’s just burning with curiosity about his new digs. But he’s very well-behaved so far. I don’t have to do much to urge him to hold back from areas he shouldn’t be poking his nose into.
This too shall pass. *sigh*
