        Hello,

I have a little male rabbit about 8 months old who is getting neutered at the end of this month. I’m kind of new to rabbits so I’ve been learning as I go but I still have a lot of questions. Lately, I’ve noticed that he’ll occasionally be sitting on his butt looking like he’s just relaxing and then he starts kind of hunching and I’ve been seeing his penis sticking out when he does this. Everything else about him seems normal, he’s eating well, drinking, pooping and peeing normally, it’s just this one thing. Is this something I should be worried about? He started this about a month ago and he does it about once or twice a week so it’s not a daily thing. At first I thought maybe a UTI but he seems ok in every other respect.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I haven’t seen this before… but it sounds like he is mounting without something to mount! Some people will give their buns a stuffy to help get out their frustrations. 🙂

If you’re able to, sending a video of the behavior to your rabbit vet may shed some light on what’s happening. It could be some weird hormonal occurrence or some sort of irritation/gas happening. A vet will do a general check-up prior to neutering.
