Weird behavior after meds

So Rorschach had been sneezing a lot the last week, so I called the vet and got him in to see them Monday.  They told us there wasn’t any mucus but they could tell us it looked like he was at the beginning stages of an upper respiratory cold and gave us an herbal immune system boost and an antibiotic to give him orally through a feeding syringe.  We gave him his meds free hand Monday night with no problem. 

Tuesday morning however was a whole other story.  He decided to take the herbal immune system booster but not the antibiotic.  So after much chasing, jumping out of my arms, many many bunny burritos, scratching and crying I got the antibiotic in him.  Monday night ended up being the same story only more difficult, so my husband and I decided to make a call first thing this morning to the vet, it was just too traumatizing to give him these orally plus we were afraid he might break his own back.  They had us come in and showed us how to give it to him subcutaneously.  He did great at the vet and everything went well but ever since we’ve been been home (9 hours now) he has been acting very skittish, hiding, cautiously crawling around, jumping at noises etc.  I’m worried about him and I was wondering if anyone has any advice or helpful ideas?  He does seem to be eating some hay and lettuce and some very small amounts of pottying. 

 Should I leave him alone?  Be close by but not touch him?  Just very sad for him, we were just beginning to bond so well.

I’m so sorry to hear this BolingbrookMom, and sadly I have no ‘instant’ fix for you. I gave my Henry a flea/mite treatment over 3 weeks ago now and HAD to pick him up to apply it. He has not let ME approach him in all that time since. Luckily he got over it enough that my hubby can (obviously he needed his back scratched?). This really annoys me cause “I” got rid of his flea’s, not the hubby, and yet he is now Henry’s new best friend.
Henry is a bit spoiled and brattish – huh? true! so I don’t think your guy will be that bad???? But it does happen – unfortunately. Just be patient, give him his space to ‘get over it’ but make it quite clear YOUR not going anywhere (keep your presence up), and I’m sure Rorschach will come good again.
Once you go to bed and he is alone and can let his guard down (not worrying that your gonna pick him up again) you may find he will eat? Your doing great. Keep an eye on him and if he hasn’t eaten overnight let us or the vet know. Cheers.

First, is this a rabbit savvy vet? I question that because rabbits do not get colds. Second, what is the name of the medications or, the ingredients in the herbal stuff?

Well bunnies do get upper respiratory infections and before an infection is full blown it is considered a cold ( ie runny nose, sneezing). So yes he has the beginning signs of an upper respiratory cold. The oral antibiotic is Bactrim and the herbal supplement is Echinacea. The new injectable med we got is Ditrim.
