Bear, my sweet 1.5 year old mini-lop has a watery eye. It’s just her right eye and it started yesterday. I came home to find the area by her eye to be wet with a little bit of white gook. It was wet all the way down her cheek

I called the vet college (which is where I see my regular vet who is a rabbit specialist) and although the regular clinic was already closed the emergency people told my vet and she called me back (I seriously have the best vet in the world). I talked to her about and she didn’t think it was serious enough to bring her in as an emergency – that it could wait until Monday. She thinks because it was so sudden (she was wet all the way down her cheek that quick) that she may have a blocked tear duct.

I’ve been cleaning her face and putting a warm compress on to try and clear the tear duct (she doesn’t like that!) . I think that might be it too because when I was cleaning a saw a bit of that white gook come out of there. She is eating normal and has been up to her normal bunny business, but I just feel so bad for her! She really likes to be clean, so I’m sure this is driving her nuts.

It’s been 24 hours now, so I was hoping it would be better, but its the same. I guess the good news is that her eye isn’t red or anything, its just watery. I haven’t noticed much gook anymore either. My vet will see her on Monday if it isn’t better.

Send some healing vibes to my Bear, please. And some de-stressing vibes to me – I’m one paranoid bunny mom right now .

Just gave Bear her parsley for tonight (flat leaf, her favorite!) – she is gobbling it up like normal, so thats good.

Also, the vet mentioned it being a possible tooth issue. I hope not! I know lops are more likely to have those, but she eats hay like crazy! If anything, she has been eating more hay lately – she seems to really like the batch we have right now. She eats a pile of hay as big as she is a day.

Awe..I’m sorry she’s got something going on. Hopefully it is something simple like a blocked tear duct or an eye irritation/scratch, not an infection or tooth issue.

Let us know what the vet says then on Monday.

Bear’s eye looks a little better today. I think those Binky Bunny healing vibes are getting to her.

Her face definately isn’t as wet – in fact, i’m wondering if the watering has stopped but that her face fur is just still a little matted up from it watering so much before. It’s a bit hard to tell, but I dont want to pick her up and poke around if it is doing better since it bugs her so much.

Bear’s eye is back to normal now, yay! I called the vet yesterday, and she said that if her eye had completely quit watering that she didn’t think Bear needed to come in, but to keep an eye on it. I wonder if she scratched it with a piece of hay or something, and it just got better over the weekend.

Thanks for the healing vibes, everyone!
