Water Bottle vs Crock

When my husband got me TigerLily he brought her home with a plastic water bottle, but it used to drip everywhere and she would never have any water since it would all leak out. At this point she was 2 months old, she immediately took to the crock we set up for her.

 

In recent weeks she has been spilling her crock of water everwhere and ruining my carpet as well

So i went to Petco a few days ago and bought a good Water Bottle not like the cheapy one my husband had brought home, i set it up for her and she seemed happy, it also held a lot more water than her little crock. But yesterday and today I have noticed ehr very frustrated with the bottle, i guess she can’t take in as much water as she was used to with the crock (i know the bottle works because the water levels are lowering) she gets angry at the bottle and tries to tear it off the cage side, ive never seen her so mad

Should i just ignore it and let her get used to it? Or should I buy a new heavier and larger crock and put the crock of water back out? I don’t want a frustrated or angry bunny. I was also always scared she would get wet dewlap with the crock she appears to be a Lionhead / Jersey Wooly mix.

I’d go with the heavier crock but you can stick it out with the bottle for another week and see if she calms down.

i have a crock, with the water bottle above, so that any drips go into the crock and pepper can choose which he wants. he prefers the crock, but on occasion will use the bottle too.
you can also get crocks for bird cages the snap on the the cage itself, they work the same with rabbit cages.

I prefer crocks myself, because the bottles are very difficult to clean properly. A heavy 5″ crock should be hard for her to tip.

There are also crocks that attach to the cage/enclosure so that could be a solution. You didn’t waste money on the bottle, because as Pepper says, you can attach the bottle above the crock and they can use either

I do the same as PeppersMama – I use a water bottle, but put a crock underneath it for easier access and excess water drip. The crock is the kind meant for birds, so it hooks over the side of the cage, which prevents spillage. Works great and Frankie always has water.

I prefer the crock and rabbits tend to drink more out of it. I use ones called the “Twist and Lock water crock” that attaches to the side of the cage and the bowl will twist and come off for easy cleaning and you don’t have to mess with reattaching it every time. I find them in the large bird section at the pet store.
