I came home to Iowa and got stranded here because of the snow. I figured I’d only be gone for a day, but now its going to be a couple days and Boston is out of water by now (probably since last night). I’m hoping to be home by tomorrow afternoon, do you think she will be ok until then? No on has a key and my landlady doesn’t know I have her (since I’m not supposed to…) I’m sure she’s out of hay too, but I’m more worried about the water!

Hey Justine! Good to see you again, although I wish it were under better circumstances. I’ll be praying you get can get home soon to your dear little bun!
I’ve had my buns go without water for a day simply because I loaded new water sippy bottles for them in the morning and apparently the washers were too tight and they couldn’t shift any fluid through them at all, so they all just stopped drinking. But I figured it out by evening and was able to get some fresh wet veggies into them and fix the bottles. I think Mimzy had a little gut slowdown, but other than that they were just really thirsty and preferred to drink from their crocks for awhile for a change.
How long have you been away from her in total? Isn’t there anyone there who can get in and check on her? Are you driving or flying?

Keeping good vibes for your travel and I can imagine Bosty will be thrilled to see you when you get home! ((((((((vibes))))))))))

Yikes. Is there anyone at all who would be able to get in there? If you called your landlady to let in a family member or friend, would she do that? You might not have to even specify WHY they need to get in.

I’d do what Beka suggests too. If you can tell her someone is coming by and give some identifying detail like their drivers license number. If she could open it up for them and they lock up when they go, she needn’t go in. I hope you can get something sorted out. Good luck!

Yes, try to get someone to be let into the place, anyone but the landlady herself. You can give the landlady the heads-up that someone will need to be let in. say that the person needs to retrieve something from your apartment. Rabbits without water will go off their feed even if there is hay. If you are away for much longer this can become a bigger problem than just sitting thirsty.

I agree with the others’ suggestion that you get anyone over there to give her water and also some very wet greens if they can.

I’m saying this more for general advice than to you here, since you are already worried, but when traveling it’s a good idea to have two kinds of water sources available. A crock and a water bottle usually do the trick. I have come home to find a dissolved pellet, or poos, or some hay in a water crock that’s yucky as a result and it’s kind of startling to realize it’s been a while. I actually have been shopping this week on line to get a metal water dish like the kind they use for birds that attaches to the side of the cage, as a backup. I never had luck with water bottles, MM. Usually mine leak to empty too soon and get everything near them wet.

Boston will be fine – take heart. But get home safely and see if someone will go visit our girl for a round of drinks. Hugs.

By the way, how much are you “not supposed to”? Because you might be able to get the landlady to allow it, if it’s a “no dogs or cats” type of no pets rule. I mean, I have found that all my landlords in apartments have allowed my bunny once they know that it’s in a cage and silent. If you don’t have a pet that ruins their property (because she’s in a cage) or bother the neighbors (she doesn’t talk, much less bark or leave poop on the lawn) then a landlord usually allows it. I even had them write my bunny into the lease and Never got charged a pet fee. So think about the conditions of your rental agreement. If it turns out she discovers the existence of Boston, she may become your best source of help when you travel. She certainly could go in a give her some water. I would hate to see you lose your home, so not sure it’s the best advice.

Sorry – I couldn’t find her via a Facebook search. Used keywords Justina, Boston, bunny, and combinations of those. I wish she’d stop by with an update.
