do most of you use tap water or bottled water? I was reading you should give your buns bottle water incase there is a change in tap water and could upset their tummies.

I just use tap water. I honestly think that using bottled water would be a bit overboard (that’s just my opinion).

I live on a property that has a well, and we don’t drink the tap water and neither do my buns. Of course, if it was city water, it would be perfectly safe for humans and buns alike.

Where I live we have natural spring water as tap water, it’s great! So Yes, i drink the tap stuff (and I am PICKY!) and so do my bunnies.

I live in Houston, TX and the tap water here tastes terrible to me and I won’t drink it. If I won’t eat/drink something then neither do my buns. We all drink bottled water. At my job we have filtered water and it’s not bad so I have been thinking of getting one of those filtered pitchers or some sort of filter for the sink.

I use tap water. I don’t even drink bottled water, so I think it’s a bit overboard for the bunnies. Sometimes I fill their bowl out of the filter in the fridge, but only about half the time.

I live in Ma and we had a big water breakage in the surrounding towns. My town was not hurt by it but the surrounding towns were. I just get nervous. Right now I am just giving her the filter water out of the fridge.

                      I use tapwater.

I used to drink bottled water, but found it gross how I could taste some weird chemicals in it.

I just stick to tap water for bun and I

I use a water filter pitcher for both me and my buns…so technically I guess it’s tap…just purified

I think this is such an important question as water is a vital component in any living being.

It depends on the tap water. As evident from the replies in this thread, not all tap water would be healthy for rabbits. In Canada, municipalities chlorinate the tap water, for example, and this has been linked to bladder cancer in humans. The same goes for bottled water, it can contain chemicals like Monkey stated; in fact, some bottled water is just tap water (Aquafine, for example).

I am on a well that has hard water, so hard that after a month of using it for my rabbits it clogged their drinking bottle sippy spout. Also, too high of a content in certain minerals can encourage the formation of urinary calculi in rabbits but little is known about the safe levels.

Most homes in my area, including myself, are on water distillers, and my rabbits get that in their bottle, but well water in a bowl also. If I were connected to a municipal water system, I’d use a Brita filter for us people and the rabbits.

We all drink tap water at my house.

*pokes Petzy* Me thinks you are confusing me with somebunny else I haven’t posted in this thread yet.. well, now I have but I hadn’t before….

We filter our water with a brita thingy, and the buns get that most of the time.

Sorry Monkey! I guess, I imagined you would post something like it

It is ironic that Canada has such vast reservoirs in fresh water and yet the tap water (outside B.C.) rates so poorly.

I give our bunnies tap water.  We have city water and have no issues with the water.  We do have a filter on our refrig- but it would take forever and a day to fill their bottles and 2 of the bottles are 32 oz and 1 bottle is 16 oz.

We have RO/DI for the saltwater tank- a system that removes impurities from the water before you mix your salt mix into it.  But it actually tastes nasty/stale.

The tap water where I live is OK to drink, and a vet told me to use it for the bunny so it was not as cold as refrigerated water, which sometimes is a bit too cold for bunny tummies. Otherwise, I use a brita filtered jug of water I keep in there for myself. I think if I owned my own home I would install the filters that attach to the tap in the sink, for both of us.

I live in Southern Indiana on the Kentucky border and our tap water smells of cholorine so I do not drink it. I don’t give it to my buns either. We all drink bottled water. It really doesn’t cost that much. I buy a case for my buns and only spend $3.99 and it lasts for 2-3 weeks. A lot of times I can find it on sale for as low as $2.50. Sams Club has big cases for great prices! I also keep some in the fridge and the freezer for hotter days as we don’t have central air. We keep a window unit that does pretty good in the living room. When it’s hot outside I give them colder water and frozen bottles to lay against. BTW, I got that tip from this site and it works great! Great idea!

Thought this was interesting concerning bottled vs. tap water from Dana Krempels:
