My Special needs bun came home on monday from being pet sit by a friend. This friend is a rabbit expert who cares for over 12 rabbits daily (his and fosters). I noticed when we got him home he was a little out of sorts, but I didn’t think much of it, just that he was re orienting himself to his environment.

about 10 minutes ago i saw him in his hay box, weaving. his eyes were have closed and he was acting drunk. Suddenly he turned his head and continued weaving. his head was towards the wall so i couldn’t see what was happening. when he stopped shaking and weaving, I noticed one ey was closed and his head was tilting. He can’t open that one eye.

I know he needs to get to a vet. I just need some rabbit people advice and thoughts too.

Oy-it’s tricky because your bunny could have been exposed to so much being in the same home as all those other buns. Rabbits can carry illness and not show it, but still pass it on; so even if they all appear healthy exposure (though possibly even not washing hands from handling one to the other) could have happened. Does not sound like a seizure, sounds like head tilt on set. When my bunny had head tilt, my vet and the specialist thought it was likely inner ear infection and not EC but we treated for both. In the studies, they showed that early aggressive (re: 30 day prescription) treatment yielded best restults so I’d urge you to treat for both EC and inner ear infection if it is head tilt; also ask your vet about an anti-nauseant like meclizine which can help your bunny feel better.
In the mean time remove anything your bunny can get tangled up in, and any low laying water bowls (my bunny would get stuck in those), try to reduce the area he has-think SMALL and padded so that if it’s tilt and he starts rolling, he’s not going to get hurt. I kept Chuck and his buddy in a storage bin by my bed in the early days of his tilt when he was constantly rolling, so that I would wake up if he was struggling. Later we graduated to a dog bed and then a crib, for reduced area with a bit more room. Rolled up towels (no holes in them!) work well as edging.

          Keep us posted!
