You know the ones. The ones at the back of the TV unit that would just be IMPOSSIBLE to hide. How do YOU ensure that your bunny doesn’t get into any mischief?   I’m trying to bunny-proof my home but the NIC cubes aren’t available in my area. There is also a part in the kitchen where the bunny can get underneath the oven (it stands short legs) and behind the base boards under the cupboards because they’re hollow! On top of that, its a tiny space and people can’t go in there to get them out! Would bricking up that part do the trick?

My bunny is in an exercise pen when I am not at home. when she comes out after i am home, i put the x-pen near the television, so she can’t get near the wires. sometimes, i stuff pillows in between the tv and the stand (ridiculous, i know) because i’ve seen her jump onto the tv stand before :p naughty bunny bunny.

I also have used a deterrent – disgusting, nasty smelling perfume. my bunny hasn’t touched the wall since!!

I use corrugated cord covers, but for a hard-core chewer there are covers made from thicker plastic — Critter Cord is one of them. I think it has an offensive taste or smell to bunnies too. Some people have been successful with Aquarium type tubing too.

As far as the oven goes, I am not sure what the safest thing for that is as I have never had to think about that. I always had ovens that were very close to the ground? Bricking sounds logical, though it could be a nasty toe stubber.

Sorry, I’m confused. Do you have a rabbit now?

For those NIC grids, try looking at The Reject Shop if you have those stores. They have packs of 13 panels for $15.

No, I’m just bunny-proofing the house in advance. The oven is a bit hard to explain. They COULD get under the oven and through to the baseboards if that makes sense…

Yeah, you’d want to block of the access points. So you could slide bricks or paving bricks just under the oven to stop access? That would work.

And with a new bunny, you wouldn’t allow unlimited access to the house for awhile. Bunnies need to be allowed to slowly acclimate to their surroundings. So starting with bunny-proofing one room is going to be your best bet.

We don’t allow our bunnies access to the kitchen, because no matter how well you think you’ve blocked something, they’ll often find a way around it and getting a rabbit out of a place you can’t reach is a total pain.

Where in the world do you live? We can’t get proper NIC grids over here in the UK (I use the term much the way I’d call the vacuum a hoover – it’s a trade name rather than a description) but I’ve found them on ebay (look for Seville classics) and in B&Q and Wickes. We’ve blocked off the TV area with NIC grids and I honestly can’t think what else we could have used that would be so effective.

Bricks would work for sure-I use a couple in my room to keep the divider between my bunnies in place-they are very heavy-and cheap too! Also you can buy cord protectors for other cords-it’s hard plastic casing that will keep nibbling noses away from the cords
