I am leaving my full-time teaching position on Sept. 1st.  Our program currently has 3 bunnies, mini-rex, English spotted, and a lionhead.  Whereas the program has agreed to keep on the bunnies…its just not the same w/o me being in charge of their care.  Anyway, I was really thinking about convincing my hubby that we should keep the lionhead w/ Jessica.

They both get along (atleast when Jess was at the program) and I really love the lionhead.  I know that he’s going to be concerned about our space situation.  We have a 2.5 bedroom apartment w/ 4 cats, 2 (yes we rescued a leopard gecko recently) geckos, and Jessica.  I would just love to provide an excellent forever home to him.

Any suggestions on convincing my hubby????

My first bunny i discussed with him. We didn’t have room for a dog, and he is allergic to cats, so I started thinking about rabbits. I began to research, asked around, and then together we went to pick out a rabbit. Then, we both thought it would be a good idea to get him a buddy.

And then the third bunny…..well, I was sneaky, and I too just went and got her. I hadn’t meaned too, but when I saw her at the shelter, and she was so skinny, and I was told she was a neglect case, i couldn’t refuse just visiting. But there was such a friendly bond between us right away, so I just adopted her then and there.

Needless to say, when my husband walked in to find a third bunny in the mix, he took a huge disappointed sigh. I scrunched up my face in the “uh oh” look, and he said….’what did you go and do? HONEY!!” But then he shlumped down, looking all defeated, and I promised it would be okay. I doubt I would ever do that again, cuz my husband’s a good guy, and I hated to see his sad face, like he was thinking, “oh god, is my wife turning into one of those bunny nut cases?…I’m doomed.”

I am having that problem too…I told him that as soon as Miffy is fixed that I would like to get another and try bonding. He was not overly enthusiastic but I know if I got one from the rescue he would concede and just go with the flow lol

I think that adding a bunny in with a single bunny is not that much different than having two bunnies. Other than the bonding period (which can be long depending on the pair) you only have one litter box, one food dish, one everything since they share. I think the BIG change comes when you add a third bunny if the bunny is not bonded to the other two. When I got Kramer (Juli’s Hus-bun) it was not a big difference between having him and juli and just having Juli. When I got Raymond however, things got more complicated since I now have two separate cages, and they have separate exercise times etc.

If you think getting another bunny (even if he consents) will cause problems in your relationship, don’t do it. That’s the main thing.
