        Hello!

My bun bun was just diagnosed with the walking dandruff mite and he is currently being treated for it, along with the other animals in the house. Does anyone have any advice on how they treated their house and the cage? Also, did any of the humans in your house have symptoms of the mite? I haven’t had any but it does freak me out a bit since it is zoonotic.

        Thanks for your advice!

You can use borax. Or diatomaceous earth (just make sure it’s food-grade). I think fur mite will only cause a bit of itching for people, nothing too serious.

What treatment was used on your rabbit?

A kitten dose of revolution every 2 weeks for a month, then I will be taking him back in for a recheck

I always want to ask as some treatments are not rabbit safe.

Revolution is pretty effective.  Hope you are able to clear it up.

My first bun had walking dandruff mites when I found him. It never affected me or my family and as Jersey says, they can cause mild itching on some people, but that’s it. It went away with treatment and it’s never returned. I did normal cleaning and washed everything that could be washed. Toys can be wiped down and put in the freezer for +48 hs. I had no idea I was supposed to treat my dog too, but she was never affected and we’ve not seen the slightest hint of anything mite-ish since. It was more than 4 years ago.
