ok so i have rearranged my room so the buns are on ceramic tile and no longer on carpet…they were pulling it up and it is a new carpet. so now they are in my bedroom on the tile with a carpet patch so they can get off the tile if they wish. i have their dog crate and cage bottom in there too with 3 litter boxes and 2 water and food bowls and a few toys. they have their own area completely fenced off and cause of thise and they get along AMAZING with no fighting, i dont bother putting them in their cages anymore and just let them in their area to do as they please. cause i life in the basement with very little natural lite, i leave a lamp on during the day with a daylight energy saving light bulb in so they are not in dark all the time…i know i wouldnt like it and i dont think they would either and i also leave a radio on for them so it isnt silant…i cant stand the silance. so, since i have moved them there, they have worken me up everymorning between 5-7am…i am NOT a morning person.
PLEASE anyone…is there a way i can teach them like i have my dog and my cat that bed time mean…shut up and get to sleep and be quiet?
i turn the lamp off at bed time so it is dark…hoping they would clue in light mean awake and dark means shhhh!!!!
IM DESPERATE!!!!!!!!
1 question.. I forget, but how old are they?
I think bunnies can adjust to routine… I’m not 100% sure on this.
Since they are crepuscular (most active at dawn and dusk) 5am is the normal time for them to get up and start moving. We’ve had many threads about this topic in the past, but unfortunately, I don’t think it’s really anything that can be easily remedied. It’s in their nature to be active at those times.
This is a major reason why I don’t like bunnies in the bedroom. As it is, our bunny room is off of our bedroom, and if we have our door open, we can hear them in the early morning. But the good thing is, we have the option of closing the door if they get too loud.
my 2 are 4 1/2 months is luna and atticus is just over 8 weeks.
once Luna gets hormonal, you’ll likely have to separate the, just a warning
oh they re both getting fixed at the same time come end of june!!! so, it will be a short time with her pms-ing!
Not just PMSing, once Atticus becomes more…manly… you will risk babies too.
Was Moose spayed yet? You said in another thread it would be in mid-May. Did I miss the thread?
moose has not been spayed yet. she is at the vet hoping she will be ok to be spayed. i have not talked about this for i am very very upset of what had happened to her.
I had my bunny in my bedroom…this was only a one night sleepover because I was woken at about 4:30am. Ahh!
Now my bun sleeps in her cage out in the living room and can make all the noise she wants while i sleep peacefully
they are getting soo much better, they havent woken me up all weekend.

What happened to her?! Did she get hurt?
(Did I miss something?)
Yes, I’m confused – what happened?
moose was attatacked by a dog on the evening the may 21st. my brother rushed her to the vet for me while i was at work. a favor he did for me that went horribly wrong and moose is paying the price. i have not posted about this until now for it just tears me apart for it happened in my own home with a dog i was home boarding whom is now being boarded at the vet office away from the other 2 rabbits. moose is stable but isnt getting any better and it doesnt look good but i am praying she pulls thru.
i am extremely devestaed and felt not talking about it and leaving it alone has been the best for me. please pray for moose that she pulls thru. there is a lot of damage to her back legs and neck.
Well, I hope Moose is okay. I think at this point you should focus on getting her well rather than changing any behaviors they may have that is keeping you awake. It could be that they are reacting to the dog attack still and is it’s a trust/fear issue at this point.
Vibes to Moose and hugs to you.
moose is at the vet office and they are doing everything they can. all i am allowed to do is see her. she will remain to stay at the vet once she shows better improvment. moose is stable but not improving as well as they would like so she will stay there until she is better enough to come home. they are very worried how she will react to my 2 dogs that she has always known but will be kept seperate from the other 2 who are home.
it is a very stressful time and very upsetting time and i am trying to keep my mind busy.
I’m so sorry about your little moose. I certainly understand that you don’t want to discuss anything that could open you to strangers’ criticism with “you should have blah blah blah.” I am sending you hugs and support, and ask the other members to be sensitive to your fears and upset right now. We always feel for someone else whose bunny is in crisis, so you are among friends. And it sounds like your brother acted quickly and did everything he could, as is your vet now, so moose has a chance for recovery.
The other bunnies are undoubtedly upset at the change, so they are probably acting out. Thus the noise. If you can spend some time with them, maybe on the floor in their room with the door closed, and just give them pets and cuddles, they will probably feel reassured by you, and you will find comfort from them as well. You have two more, right? Just let them out one at a time so you can give them personal attention, and they stay separated since they are not spayed until next month.
I agree that your dogs are cause for fear in them right now, even though they have gotten along up to this point. Supervised and separated is probably best for a while. If the bunnies had a good relationship with your dogs before this, then I would wash your home so the scent of the attack boarded dog is cleaned out. They may still smell him, and that may get in the way of smelling their familiar family, your dogs and you. A good way to stay busy, too.
{{{{{{Healing vibes, moose.}}}}}}}}}}}
Hugs to you.
I’m so sorry to hear about poor Moose! How horrifying!
Are you able to share the details of her injuries? If you don’t want to yet, I understand. We may be able to help you with some long-term solutions to various problems that disabled bunnies have (loss of mobility, incontinence, urine scald) or I know there is a disabled rabbit forum that deals with these topics as well.
(((Moose!)))
I’m assuming your vet is confident in Moose’s prognosis, or else he would not keep her alive. I wish you the best. Keep us posted.
PabbitPam> thank you for your kinds words, you have describe when i am my brother is going thur. i am very devoted to my pets and have never had an animal attatck another animal and cause this much damage.
my vet has high hopes for moose and wants to keep her there until she shows great improvement. the damage to her legs are more sever to her neck. this is very hard for me and my brother is in worse shape having to pull moose out of the dogs mouth, im honestly surprised, cause of how my brother is, the dog came out unharmed. my brother did punch the dog in the head but it was only to get the dog to release moose. the dog grabed moose by the neck and lost grip then got her back legs. my brother was seconds away and saved her life! thankfully my other 2 dogs didnt jump in and join in. they dont really bother with the buns. once moose is released the vet has recommended her to do her healing in an environment without large dogs to help her as best as she can, she will likely fear dogs, cant say i blame her so my bestfriend, who is a registered vet tech, is going to house moose until recovered and im going to try moose in the house with the dogs, seperately of course but she will still be able to smell my 2 dogs. and this is from my vet. if she can live in the house and still smell the dogs and be ok and learn to calm down she is going to come home and stay, is she cant my vet recommeneded her going to a home without dogs and if that is the case, my bestvriend has agreed to take her and i can still see moose and be with her without her in a home of dogs.
I’m so glad you have it figured out for her to be in a safe place to heal!
I hope everything goes well for moose! So sorry to hear about that! Will be praying for her & you!
moose is doing well, she is still in the vet office. the vet had told me the other nite they had to bring a big dog bout the size of dog that attacked moose into the same area, the kennels for smaller animals are the stackable ones and there is an operating table in the same “room”, more of an open space, but anyway the dog barked and moose FREAKED out to the point she had to be removed from the area so they could work on the dog once it was sedated, moose was put back in her little cage.
looks like she is going to be VERY afraid of large dogs and frankly this hasnt come to a surprise to anyone, my vet warned this was a most likely to happen but really, after what the dog did to her, it isnt a surprise!
she should be going to my friends house within the next week or so and once she is settled in and healing is going very well, she will SLOWLY be intrioduced to dogs to see if she can be in a home with them.
This is just my opinion of what I would do in this situation… but I don’t even know if I would bother trying to introduce her to dogs at this point. I really think she’d be so much better off being allowed to live in a dog-free home. She’s been thru so much and I think having to be with dogs, even if she never SEES them, but can smell them… would be too stressful for her and greatly reduce her quality of life. If your friend is dog-free, and is willing to provide a home for her, maybe she should stay?
So happy to hear Moose is doing well! I agree with Beka, I wouldn’t even try to bring dogs around her, but if they are your dogs & she knows them that might be different!
i have had the same thought and after the incident at the vet office where moose got freaked out just having the large breed dog brought in the same area, the dog had to be removed then moose and then the dog brought back to do what the dog was brought in to the vet. once the work was done on the dog, moose was brought back into the area. so, because of that and i do have 2 large dogs, my friend has agreed to keep moose. neither of us want to put her thru any undo stress and she is a dog free home and dogs arent allowed in her apartment, she lives above a buisness. so, we both feel, as does my vet, that moose would do much better in the future and live a healthier life in a dog free home. and this way, ill still get to see her.
even though she does know my 2 dogs and has grown up wth them, we all feel it isnt a risk we wont to risk for her health and stress level. just incase it it ends worse then anyone can think.
This really makes me sad for you and Moose. I wish that hadn’t happened… poor thing. You’re making a good decision tho. If your friend needs help with bunny info, please let her know she can come on BB. We’d also love to see update pics of Moose in her new home. She really is a pretty girl!
Hugs to you and Moose. I think you made a well thought out decision on what is best for your Moose.
as much as i am going to miss having her in the house and arpund, i need to do whats bewst for her and she has already shown she will not be good in an environment with dogs so to give her a better life, she will be moving out. i am going to miss her very muxch but she will be very well taking care of. and this isnt my firneds first bunny so she knows what she is doing as well as being a vet tech. moose couldnt be in better care! thank you for your support everyone, it has been a hard time between that and the other 2 going in to get pixed next thursday on the 10th and i am just a nergvous wreck for that!
What a painfully compassionate decision! Kudos to you for doing what is best for Moose, even though I know it must hurt you. I am so glad you will be able to visit her and she is in good care with your friend.
How is Moose healing from any physical injuries? So great that her new human is a vet tech!
BIG HUGS TO YOU!
thanks binky, she would be the only one i would let moose go to, she deals with rabbits at the vet office she works at on a regular basis.
moose is showing good signs that she has full use of her back legs. they dont work 100% but the vet figures that it will be close to it. no less then 90% so i was very glad to hear that. and my friend is going to continue with the physio the vet staff is doing with moose to make her move and use her legs so she keeps making them stronger and stronger. she has to move to get at anything. her littler, food, water…its all spread out so she cant just lay there and eat and drink, has to move around which is very important.
she should be going home soon. she has been at the vet since the evening of may 21st. im sure she cant wait to get out of there.
I didn’t really know what to say, so I didn’t say anything, but I’ve been following this thread since I joined and I am really glad to hear of this improvement (:
thank you zombie, it has been really hard since moose was attatcked by the dog. moose is not the same bunny and is even more hostle to my other rabbits. we tried a bunny date at the vet clinic to see if she would be good with other rabbits and put both in a new area for both of them and as soon as moose was let go, she right off the hop full out tried to attack luna. so looks like moose will be better off as an only bunny with no dogs. she still seems to be completely fine with cats. so, that is good. my vet tech has 2 cats but no other rabbits and no dogs!
Will Moose be strong enough to spay before leaving the vet office?
they dont want to try so they are going to wait until she is fully healed and then do her…so looks like it will be done when she turns 6 onths old but my friend is going to have her done at the vet clinic she works at so she can be there and see how the surgery is going and be there for moose…and she gets a really good quote for the surgery and their vet deals with rabbits a lot!
Oh. Yeah, that’s probably good. I thought she was already over 6 months old. But I must have been mixed up with someone else’s bunny.
she isnt quite 6 months yet. i believe she wont be 6 months old until end of june/ begining of july so that time period will be a good time for her to heal
Edited- I am highly confused and pretty sad as I have seen Moose for sale in a online classified ad. Could you let us know what is happening with her.
(my apologies if the tone of my post prior to editing caused offence)
I am quite speechless, and concerned for Moose… I do hope you were unaware L&A. Makes me sad to see this add for poor little Moose.
oh my! Really concerned for poor Moose!
Even tho this new info was discovered accidentally, we are still concerned for Moose’s welfare. So if you’re willing to let us know what’s going on, we’d really like to hear about it.
My concern for Moose is once she is rehomed (if that is what the vet tech friend is doing) there is no control over what type of conditions she’s kept in, or what care she receives. And with her delicate health and psyche now, you want to make sure that wherever she lives, they know that she has special limitations. That is why we were happy the vet tech friend was keeping her, b/c she did not have any dogs.
Maybe it would be better for YOU to keep Moose, so this way you have control over her surroundings. I’m sure you could figure out something to keep her safely away from your dogs. We could help!!!
as far as i know moose is in my vet tech friends care. and has not been posted for sale. i cant see her doing that and espcially without telling me or giving me the option of taking her back or finding her a new home….are you absolultly sure it is the same moose? i dont want to cause an issue if it is a different rabbit that looks like moose?! PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!
It was definitely your Moose. The exact pic that you posted on the forum here of her was the pic posted in the ad. Plus it was posted for your area.
I have to wonder tho… how would the friend get the pic of Moose that Lunar took, unless she somehow found it in a previous BB post. Do you know if your friend has been on BB at any point? Or did you give her pics of Moose? I guess it’s neither here nor there. We were really just wondering if you had any idea of what was going on. I’m sure I can speak for all of us that we only wish the best for Moose.
The ad was taken down right at the time that it was mentioned here on BB.
How is Moose recovering?
^^^That makes me think someone was on BB and saw that the ad was discovered. This is becoming our own little mystery then… lol. Very suspicious.
So how is Moose?
moose is doing great. i just got home from my friends place and moose is there happy and doing great. you can tell she has a bit of problems with her back legs but nothing that effects her quatlity of life. i asked her about an ad…where was it posted may i ask on the internet? she had no idea what i was talking about. the pics i have on here are on my photobucket…can anyone look at my album on there??
What is your photo bucket? It isnt listed in your profile.
And it was posted on kijiji, but the ad was taken down when it was brought up here.
Yes, the ad I referred to was on kijiji but was removed end of last week. I can send you the link to the other listings by this person if you wish.
If you post photos here from photobucket using the picture icon or http code, I don’t believe just anyone can view the whole account, just the linked image. I think that is so. I believe you can set privacy setting for your account there also.
I’m so glad to hear that Moose is still living with your tech friend and doing well. How nice that you can visit her, too.
Unfortunately, the internet is very accessible, and it does sound like someone was able to save that picture of Moose from here (probably) and use it for a strange purpose. Just glad to know that you’ve seen her and she is happy in her new home.
It’s kind of a reminder to us all that we are not on a private forum. If you check out the Home page, you’ll see that at this moment we have eleven visitors, only 4 members logged on, with almost 6000 total members. 15 new members registered just yesterday. That’s about average daily. So we can be seen by many, many people and sadly not all of them are bunny lovers. Thus the Forum Leaders’ duty of reviewing the posts daily, with the cautions about posting personal, identifying information. We want our members to be safe slaves.
What a huge relief! Both that Moose is doing well, and that your friend is keeping her!
I mentioned previously, but I’ll bring it up again, there is a disabled rabbit forum. I know your friend is a vet tech, but if she isn’t used to rabbits, and in particular rabbits with mobility issues, she may want to look that site up to get some good ideas for housing, litterbox accessibility, and exercise tips.
http://www.catsandrabbitsandmore.com/disabled_rabbits
thank you beka, i will defiently pas on the information to her. that was another reason she would be the only person to get moose…she gets free vet care at the vet office she works at and treating moose in the future wont cost her a dime but me a fortune and i still get to visit with moose and see her. good to know moose is inlove with her 2 cats. she wanted to try moose on a bunny date with a completely new rabbit (moose absolutly HATED lunar!) and she did the exact same thing she did to lunar, INSTANTLY attatcked as soon as moose was let go. no hesitation at all so her, myself and her boss (the vet) has deemed moose a one bunny household only! but that is gine, she has the 2 cats and they love her as much as she likes them. she actually keeps the kitten inline! lol
