Moose refused ot eat his greens this evening.. not even his carrot bits. And he’s hopping very slowly around his pen.. he’s more interested in loafing htan eating. Although he gets up often to reloaf or flop elsewhere, he doesn’t stay in one spor for more than a couple minutes. If he doesn’t eat or go potty by late tonite, I’m gonna take him in to the vet. I gave hima nice fresh potty so I can make sure if he goes.
Vibes for my Moose man please!
((((((((((((((((((( healing vibes for moose)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
{{{{Moose}}}}}
Have you tried a raisin? Sometimes mine turn their nose up at greens because they’ve stuffed themselves already (I do freefeed everything) on hay and previous greens-but mine will never turn down a raisin so if I’m worried I’ll try a raisin-then they whip it out of my fingers so quick I know they’re just chubbers who weren’t hungry at the time.
I tried his papaya bits, raisins.. nothing. Although he did leave about 5 poops in his box. No pee though.. I’ll keep an eye on him tonite. I’ll sleep next to him too.
Buddie and I send HEALING VIBES to your Moose man, Monkeybun. Delivered with lots of nose rubs over the electrons. Your plan to take him to the vet if you don’t see improvement shortly is a good one. Get better, quick, Moose!
On a brighter note, hubby is all worried about him and sitting with him giving him pets, so I guess he isn’t mad at him anymore lol.
Yay Moosie just peed. Now if only we could get him to eat
Poor Moose. Have you tried simethicone?
Don’t have any, and grocery store is closed til morning
Sigh. MB, I’m starting a thread about Leroy… I’m worried about Leroy too.
Vibes for Moosie!
Moosie man isn’t getting any better.. he can’t get himself comfortable. Poor guy… Don’t think its gas, haven’t heard his tummy at all. haven’t felt anything different with his tummy either, so no idea.
I’ll go get his carrier ready… looks like I’ll have to take him in.
{{{Moose!}}}
Have you tried tummy massages. I always do them before simethicone. I’m kinda wondering if he’s missing Monkey despite their scuffle. And that maybe she’s missing him too…(she was doing that weird marking).
MB,
I didn’t see this post until just now, and I had just replied to your other one about his being mean to Monkey. I suggested he might be aggressive because he could be sick, and here you are.
DEFINITELY take him to the vet. There’s something wrong with our little guy. I’m sure by now you’ve made an appt. since I don’t know what time of day it is for you.
Let’s hope he just has a belly full of fur he needs to pass. Bunnies can’t digest Monkeys.
{{{{{{{{{{{{feel better, Moosie}}}}}}}}}}}
My vet opens in 6 minutes, I’ll be calling to let them know I’m bringing him in when it does. He woke me up at 6:30 this morning, climbing all over me. Yes, I slept in his pen lol. he drank some water around 7, and at 7:15 he finally nibbled on a piece of cilantro and carrot I had left for him from his dinner. Had some hay at about 7:30. Hasn’t gone potty since about 10pm though. So either way, he’s gonna go in just in case.
Good luck at the vets this morning, hope all goes well and your bunbun is feeling better!
tell us what happens ((((((((((((((((((( healing vibes)))))))))))))))))))))))))
Well, he’s at the vet now. Had to do an emergency drop off as they had no appointments open until later this afternoon. SO he’s snuggled with his bear in a kennel there til the vet can take a moment to see him. Poor little man…
Aww poor Moosie! Hope he feels better soon. It’s good that he’s at the vet though.
It is also possible that Moose got stressed out because of the session and it messed up his routines. Vibes for his speedy recovery ~. Whenever mine go through an episode it always looks bad but they do bounce back just as surprisingly, too, especially if it is stress-related. Some pampering is in order now! Did Moose hear your husband saying those things about what would happen if he doesn’t quit bothering Monkey? j/k
Healthy vibes for Moose!
I think so lol.
It’s kind of funny though. I slept in Moosie’s pen last night, had to move it a bit so I would fit nice. Ended up clipping one end of his pen to Monkey’s. And Moose spent the night loafed at that one part attached to Monkey’s, Monkey spent the night loafed on her side of it. Was cute Monkey definitely misses him, she got all excited when he loafed there. She tried grooming through the bars
Moose didn’t care.. he was feelin icky.
Well, my favorite little man is full blown stasis, I have some Regulan to give him, and some probiotic for 10 days. And critical care. Vet says no veggies or treats til he starts eating and pooping on his own. Poor guy… he didn’t poop at all at the vet, and he’s been there since just after 8 am. Vet says if he doesn’t poop soon, to call them back.
More vibes for Moosie man please!!
{{{{{MOOSE}}}}} Give him some nose rubs from me.
He’s getting a pile of pets from both me and the hubby. Poor little man.. he didn’t enjoy the force feeding of critical care at the vet, I suspect it will be difficult to give it and the meds to him here too. Stressful time for the Mooster.
I am so sorry you are going through this — my poor Peter went through this just a month ago, but he bounced back pretty quickly and (knock on wood), we’re okay now. I really think that spending a lot of time with them when they’re sick, just petting and talking to them, is helpful to them and probably to us, too.
I had good luck getting Peter to take his meds by dipping the ends of the syringe in applesauce — he would hesitantly lick the end of the syringe and I would quickly push down to get the meds in his mouth (with some, of course, squirting on him, lol). After a few doses, he was less resistant.
Keep us updated — sending healing vibes!
<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>> Poop vibes for Moosie~
Oh no! I just saw this! I’m so sorry Moose is sick! <<>>
Well, good news. he ate some pellets, so I may not have to force feed him and can save the critical care
Keep em coming, the vibes are working!
Poor Moose – Do you think this is tied to his crabbiness with Monkey?
((((Vibes Moosie))))
Continued vibes. I would still try to force feed him if I were you.
Yay we have poopies!!! And he’s happily shovelling hay and pellets into his mouth too
What a relief! Keep the reglan on hand just in case it happens again. I don’t really understand why your vet said not to feed veggies though – did he have a reason? Just curious.
As I read your latest posts: First, Oh NO! Moosie is very sick after all. Next, Thank God you got him to the vet asap and she’s given him treatment right away. Then {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Healing vibes, sweet little guy}}}}}}}}}}. Now Yay!!!! Poos!!!! Keep ’em comin’ Moosie!
I’ve spent many nights on my floor next to a sick bunny, so I understand what you were going through. Clearly Monkey cares, too. I think Moose had done the silent bunny version of “will you call the doctor, woman, I’m sick here!” when he pulled on Monkey before.
I agree with Sarita about keeping the reglan handy, and continuing to feed as instructed just a bit longer. The hardest part is if you stop too soon, and have a recurrence. Try a drop of apple sauce or banana on the tip and go in from the side of his mouth. If he’s hungry again, he’ll take it.
{{{{{{{{{{fast Healing snuggles for the Moosie Man}}}}}}}}}}}
I’m happy that Moosie is eating and pooping again
*HUGS*
I’m gonna keep giving the reglan and the other stuff my vet prescribed for as long as i was told to give it to him, not gonna take any chances with my little man. He’s being a good boy about taking his meds too. I pick him up, he snuggles in, hubby puts the syringe near his mouth, Moose gobbles it down. Guess he knows its helping him
He snuggled with me all night too, either sleeping on my back, or snuggled against my side. And groomed my pillow and blanket for me. hehe
I love when they climb on your back. Sleeping there – awwwwwwwww.
Stasis is no fun, Glad your little guy is feeling better now.
I have a ritual with bunnies who are not eating much and there poops are small or minimal, it includes;
*Belly Massages (A vibrating toothbrush end (not the brush) can help with this as well.)
*Teasing of Favorite treats (Papaya Tablets, canned Pumpkin)
*Syringe of Fluids (usualy grape flavored pedealyte, if not then just water) to keep them hydrated
*Ovol or homeopathic remedy (for gas)
*Chase around to get them moving (more movement helps the guts get moving again)
If none of these had helped in 12 or so hours and the bunny is not improving I give them cysapride (guy mobility drug), a heat pad to keep the body temperture up, and more fluids (if dyhydrated then Sub Q), critical care and off to the Vet we go.
I’ve not lost a bun to stasis, and 50% is just gas or maybe stress and never get’s to GI Stasis. Only 2 of my many cases have had overnights at a Vet.
*** I do not reccomend anyone medicating their bunnies themselves if they do not have been advised by a Vet to do so. But belly rubs & oral fluids are always very helpful if you can’t get to the Vet ASAP.
He isn’t feeling 100% yet, but he’s gettin there slowly. He hasn’t eaten as much today so far, I think he wants his greens lol. Not sure why the vet said no greens at all, if htey tempt his appetite, may be good to give him a little bit…
I don’t understand that either! I always say give them what they want. I would definitely ask about the greens – that seem very contradictory to what I’ve heard from other vets.
The vet we saw yesterday isn’t my usual vet, she was the other vet there that Monkey hates lol. My vet is doing something for the humane society, so he wasn’t available. I’ll give him a bit of his favs today, and see what he thinks. Thats how I knew he wasn’t eating int he first place, he left his nommy dinner alone.
Hey MB…just tell Moosie that in Alaska, we get $45 per pound for bags of moose droppings! ^_^ That should get him producing in no time!
(((((((((((((((((((((((more get better vibes for Moose)))))))))))))))))))) Sorry, just getting back in to see this today. I hope he is mo’ beddah! (((hugs)))
Oh…I’m late to this! I’m glad your Moose was able to get reglan to help get his gut moving. I also wondered about the greens limitations, as more fluids would be good for the gut. The “no greens” advice is also contradictory to what my vet would recommend. So I’m confused, unless the vet thinks for some reason a particular one that you are feeding would cause gas or ?? But still mine would still recommend easily digestible greens like parsley, cilantro, etc. Will your regular vet be back soon so you call to ask him this question? Exercise can also help get the gut moving so if you can entice him with new boxes to explore, it may help if he feels up to it. Gentle tummy massage may be helpful since his gut is moving a little as is – might help get it going more.
Healing Vibes for Moose!!
My regular vet will be in tomorrow, so I can call then. His regular veggies are romaine, cilantro and parsley so far. None of those should be too rough on his tummy.
Perhaps the vet has concerns that greens may cause some gas and compound things? Or that it’s really not enough fibre to move things? I would give them if it were me. I find mine often have an appetite for hay after greens anyway. I’d maybe give small amount of simethe after the greens. Your call though MB. So glad he’s coming around.
I gave him a smaller portion of greens than his usual, and he just inhaled them. He was thrilled to have them, he even binkied after
Hooray for binkies! So glad Moose is feeling better!
I think when a vet tells you not to feed veggies it’s probably because they want you to push hay, since it’s really what gets a bunny’s gut going, however, I love the fact that Reglan is available since it really helps keep Mimzy regular when he gets sluggish.
During his stasis event though, I did give him veggies simply because he was eating NOTHING else and I wanted him to have nourishment. He got back to the hay presently, but without the greens I don’t think it would’ve turned out as well as it did.
Perhaps just the stress of the bonding was what put Moose’s tummy into neutral. Change in routine is hard on a bun.
More ‘feel better and get back to nicer bonding and happier times ahead’ vibes! ((((((((((((((((((((((((Moose)))))))))))))))))))))))
Ack sorry I missed your post here Lesley! My best wishes to Mr. Moosie!!! {{{{{{VIBES}}}}}} Bun sends lots of raisin and nose kisses
Since he’s been off his greens for a day or two, and now really wants them, why don’t you let him have them in small quantities, while continuing the hay in large amounts, then see how he does. Definitely call your regular vet, and if he has a reoccurance, it may be related.
Are you sure you heard him right? Was it written down for you? I’m just wondering if, during a stressful visit the vet said More greens, not No greens.
Though I’m inclined to agree with the speculation that no greens means hay is the only option, and does well to fix things.
Keep getting better, Mr. Moose!
Vibes for poor moosie!
No, it was written down Pam. So I wouldn’t have misheard it I’ve been giving him smaller portions of his greens, and he’s still all excited about em. He’s doing much better now, lots of normal poopies, and he still adores his hay too.
I think he heard your hubby, then, and is faking.
Whatever set Moosey up for this, I hope he will be over it soon! What a scare. Get well Moose… How is he this morning?
OK, I mispelled Moosie. Will this make him have another bout of sicky tummy?
Hehe I call him Moosie, but his name is Moose Maybe me calling him the less manly Moosie started it all!
He’s doing much better, eating like a champ, and pooping tons too. Today is his last day for the reglan, but he is supposed to stay on the probiotic for another 5 days.
Since I thought of the wonderful name Moose FIRST, I must add that Moosie is a perfectly correct variation on Moose. It is not less manly, it just rhymes with Monkey.
Glad to hear he’s coming along well. Has he been separated from Monkeyshines all this time?
Yeah, we haven’t let them out together. Although he can run up to the side of her pen and sniff her through the bars, which he has done many times. Hasn’t really tried biting her through the bars which is good. She’s still very interested in him.
We won’t restart the bonding until we come back from our cabin trip in a week and a half, we’re going away for 4 days and dont want to start it up and then pause it again. Plus we want to wait until Moosie’s meds are all done anyway.
Upon discontinuing the reglan, you might expect a little sluggishness from him. I know Mimzy slowed back up a bit. I was jut told by the vet to keep giving the reglan at a smaller dose and for staggered days afterward until he began pooping normally on his own again.
And…you’re going away? WHAT?? 0_o Who’s going to take care of Moosie and Monkey? I’d be afraid this would stress him again, but…if you’d like to ship them both up to me, I’ll watch them for you…don’t know if you’ll get them back….lmao…… ^_^
hehehe. A friend of ours that has bunnies is gonna come by to take care of em for us. I’ll be leaving all the vet info for him, just in case.
That sounds like a good plan. Also, someone suggested elsewhere to leave a credit card number with the vet that could be charged if he needs an emergency treatment or more meds. so the bunny sitter can just take him there and not worry. You’d be called by one of them of course.
Resting alone together while you’re away may not do them a bit of harm. They may both relax and recooperate quietly.
*pssst. everyone – party at M&M’s in 2 weeks! *
Week and a half now Yeah I thought about leaving the credit number with the vet, suggested it to hubby. Don’t want a relapse of Moosie’s stasis
