        Hey everyone,

Well, I was trancing Mr. Bunny to do anal glands today. That went well, I think I found them because I opened a little hole and it suddenly smelled very strongly of nachos Then he woke up from it, he was obviously very stressed so I’m gonna try again tomorrow.

But anyway, I was looking at his chin while he was tranced. His chin was quite wet and the fur was stuck together. What worried me, is the fur seemed quite thin there…So thin I could easily see the pink skin around the wet area. I don’t remember it looking like that the last time I looked down there, 2-3 weeks ago. He hadn’t been drinking too recently, I had been down with him for about 20-30 minutes and he hadn’t taken a drink in that time. He also isn’t a “chinner” at all…I almost never see him rubbing his chin on things..

Could it just be his chin stays wet a long time  after drinking water? Maybe I remember how thin his chin hair is wrong…

Hi Fluffybunny. It sounds like you may want to have a vet check it out and make sure there is nothing wrong with Mr. Bunny’s teeth and if the skin is red, it sounds irritated and hopefully there is not an infection.

Did you notice where the wet chin came from? Like from the side of your bunny’s mouth? Rucy is actually going through this right now and I can see that the wetness comes from a particular part of her mouth – she has teeth issues and infection seems to come and go, as well as she can get food stuck up on a “shelf’ of dull spurs which causes her to salivate while she tries to get them “unstuck”. Right now she is on her third week of a strong dose of antibiotics and seems to be doing better.

The fur on their chin is a bit thinner and if it’s wet, it will be extra thin looking. The only way to know for sure if it was from water is to dry his chin with a soft cloth and see if it returns I had to do this for Rucy the first few days she was on antiboitics.

I agree with Scarlet that if the chin red, this sounds irritated. This usually happens over time so that would mean it’s been wet more on a constant bases and could be a sign that something is up, and you should check with your vet.

            Is he eating okay?

Ok on the lighter side of thinks, I just *snorked* in the office here at work, over the ‘

              smelled very strongly of nachos

              comment!! LOL

On the chin, does he have a watter bottle or crock? I’m thinking like BB and Scarlet are, esp. since the fur is thinner that sounds like it may have been going on for a while and you’ll want to get him to a vet for a checkup as soon as you can. How is he eating?

I was recently concerned about my mini-lop having a wet chin. One side of his chin, he has a bit longer hair and it always seemed to be wet and matted with hay and dirt. I was worried about possible teeth issues. He drinks very sloppily out of his crock but to be sure he wasn’t drooling I woke him up several times while he was in his afternoon sleep (oh, the stink eye afterweards ) and felt his chin and it was dry. So it looks like it’s just from dunking his chin in the crock. Maybe you could try this with your Mr. Bunny.
