I chased ChaCha around tonight to have her try some romaine lettuce.. and it worked  She finally ate it, and LOVED IT I only gave her 2 tiny pieces of leaves.

She is a bigger dwarf rabbit (3 pounds) and I have a lot of books on rabbits.. but it doesn’t say how much veggies to give. How much lettuce is good for a dwarf and how often do I give her lettuce?

I have already began to limit her pellet intake to 1/8 cup a day. I am switching her over to timothy based pellets, but there is still some alfalfa in the mix.

I am going to let her eat some lettuce for 2 weeks and add a carrot to it.

That’s great that she loved the lettuce. I feed my rabbits (3-5 pounds) a full crock of greens 2x a day. The daily recommended is 1 cup but I’m not sure what size rabbit that is referring to.

I’ve heard 2 cups minimum for every 5-6lbs of rabbit. I take that to mean 2 cups for any rabbit 😛 even though mine are both smaller than 6lbs, so they split about 4-5 cups per day.

Yes, a minimum of 2 cups a day, but this amount can go up to about 4 cups a day, as long as hay intake is not affected. I don’t measure veggies, but I have it where my two share half a big head of romaine, a big bunch of parsley, and half a big head of another lettuce or half a bunch of other greens everyday.

Beka! Teehee!! Such cuties going at the lettuce buffet!!

My dad just came home and presented me with a head of romaine, crutons, and ceasar dressing (the last two are for me LOL).

I promised little ChaCha that I would eat more salad if she eats her romaine! So this is the time

I work at a Japanese variety store and was eyeing a heavy white ceramic bowl that was amazingly 1 cup!! I will buy that one today and give her greens at night

Will work on giving her different varieties soon!!
                  Carrots with carrot tops?

Beka, thanks so much for the visual. Now I have arsenal for the next time we argue about how much vegetables Lemony really does need everyday.

Buster is 2lbs and the vet said she can have 1 cup of veggies per day. Seems to be working out good, but she can certainly eat more if i gave it to her! I do sneak a carrot or two in the mornings.

Oh, good catch on my post – I meant 2cups for any rabbit smaller than 5-6lbs 😛 Meaning that my guys are smaller, but I still give them 2cups. I forgot that there are obviously lots of bunnies bigger than 6lbs. Duh!

Beka, you’re feeding them a forest!

If I give Sammy about 2/3 of her cabbage crock bowl full of greens, she leaves half until the evening.

Carrots with the tops are good for bunnies, and tasty too.

I read in a book recently to give your bunny a pile of greens the SIZE OF THE BUN each day. I think I have that about right… lol!

Haha. Otto definitely gets his body volume in veggies every day. I think with two buns I give a little less – it’s not twice as much as Otto was getting … I shouldn’t, but it’s just hard to fit it all in the fridge! The drawers go to the human veggies, so the bunnies get two shelves. There are only two other little shelves for our other food. I can’t wait til the farmer’s market opens and I can buy them more!
