UTI or is she angry?

I was down on the ground spending some quality time with Penelope when I noticed that she was doing something strange. She would stop, lift her tail, pee just a little, continue on with what she was doing, and repeat this whole process over and over again. She didn’t seem to be in pain when she was peeing. I couldn’t really tell if she was straining, but there weren’t any obvious signs of it. There wasn’t any blood in it that I could tell because she was peeing on a dark rug, but I wiped it up with a paper towel and there didn’t seem to be any blood, but I have shut her up in her cage so I’ll be able to tell for sure if blood does start to appear. I’m worried it could be a UTI (or something worse). I didn’t know if anyone else’s buns have had this problem and or what it turned out to be.

I was also thinking that it could just be from spite. I’ve been spending more time with Thumper the last couple days (because of the incident) and I thought it could be jealousy. Penelope is a really needy rabbit (there is never such a thing as too many pets…she even doesn’t mind being held lol) I didn’t know if she could be doing it to show me that she was unhappy with me (she not letting me know any other way). Just wanted your alls thoughts. I tend to over-react when it comes to my babies, so it’s probably nothing. But I’ll continue to monitor her through-out the next couple days and take her to the vet if anything gets worse or changes. (I finally just paid off my vet bill too!  I knew it wouldn’t last long lol)

You generally won’t be able to detect blood in the urine in cases of UTI’s. I’m only aware of blood being visible to the eye when an unspayed rabbit has uterine cancer (the blood passes at the end of urination and appears in the middle of the puddle). Other cases might be from a bleed in the bladder like BB’s Jack had when he developed bladder stones.

It could well be behavioural due to Thumper being there but it’s worth keeping an eye on her as you’re doing. Keep an eye open for unusal posturing. Was your last vet fee due to her or Thumper? Sorry, I’m not up to date. One thing you could do is ring them and let them know you’re concerns. They might let you come by and pick up some baytril for her. They may prefer to see her but it’s worth asking. Baytril is said to be pretty effective for UTI’s.

Thanks jerseygirl! If she keeps on through today I’ll call the vet tomorrow and see what they think. And I was still paying off Penelope’s spay and Thumper’s emergency visit lol I’m a poor college student!
