Hi everyone! I use small fleece blankets for the bedding in my rabbit’s cages. I was washing them today with the normal detergent that I use, and my dad texted me and said that he added bleach to them because they smelled bad. There were about 10 small fleece blankets in the load. Is this safe for the rabbits? I don’t want to have to throw out and replace all of them, but I will if it is unsafe for my rabbits to use them.

Okay so I’m looking at the bottle and it says “Chlorine-Free” Bleach Color Safe and then underneath it says – non-corrosive, odorless, perfume and dye free. He added 1/2 of a cup to the load of laundry with all 10 fleece blankets. They do not smell strong and I just put them on for an additional rinse and spin cycle. Should I toss them and replace them or are they ok?

Honestly if it was well washed out, I wouldn’t be too concerned unless your rabbit actively ingests a lot of it (which itself is not good without bleach).

If it’s color-safe and chlorine free it’s probably oxygen bleach, which is not toxic. I use it all the time, f ex for bed sheets ,and my bun is free roam and allowed on beds etc.
