Urine Spots

Things have been a bit different round here for the rabbits as I have been battling morning sickness and exhaustion while keeping up with my full time job, so my husband has taken over making sure they are clean and fed.  They are of course still in the same routine and still roam free when we are home, so I still get some time with them when I’m not so tired I’m in bed before dark.

Its 3am and I’ve suddenly just clicked that Pepper may have been showing signs of a urine infection?

The other day she was on my husbands lap, a rare occurance but she endures if it means getting a couple of the blueberries that he is eating.  When she left his lap he had little spots of what must have been urine on his jeans.  I’ve noticed the odd very small wet patch on the rug too but didn’t think anything of it - but I’m now wondering if I should be worried. 

She is eating and drinking lots and using her litter tray fine.  There has been the odd accident over the last couple of weeks but I know this is because my husband has got behind with their cleaning and Pepper always pees in an area where hay has built up on the floor.  I’m not aware of her doing it recently.

I would take her into the vet’s for an exam about this. Better safe than sorry! It isn’t normal to dribble urine like she did on the jeans. Try to collect some of her urine too before you take her in to submit for testing.

As long as you’re sure it wasn’t blueberry juice that dripped, or that she’d been out too long without use of the litter pan. (Sometimes a restless, wiggling butt indicates a bunny who has to go but is too lazy or desperate to try to make it back to the box in time.) I’d agree with Petzy that a vet visit is a good idea. But if she’s good with her litter habits, and is out often, you can also put a second litter pan in another room so she doesn’t have to travel far to use it. Tends to stay cleaner and is available as a quick back up pan if a change is needed and time is short.
