        Hello,

My rabbit has been urinating outside of her litter box for a about a week and a half, and drinking more water. We had a vet appointment yesterday, and her bloodwork and urinalysis were normal. She was prescribed metacam for sore hocks, which is something we’ve been treating since I got her a year ago. Vet thinks maybe her hocks are affecting her ability to jump into the litterbox. I have to report back on how she’s doing after the course of pain med.

Nothing changed in her environment, diet, routine etc.

She’s 3.5 – 4 years old, spayed. A family had her for 2 yrs before me, but gave her up. I don’t know any previous history of her, but she already had the sore hocks when I got her. It’s been a cycle of her hocks looking good and bad, but they are definitely way better than before!

If urinating outside of the litterbox is some kind of behavioral issue and not a medical issue, any suggestions on how I would correct it?

        Thanks!

Sometimes drinking extra water and poor litter habits can be related to a dental problem. Are you noticing any change in her eating preferences? I had a bun with dental issues that would drink TONS of water and then pee outside his box often.

Are you noticing that she pees just outside the box? Does she sit outside the box while she’s eating hay and then pee? Or does it seem more random?

The vet checked her teeth while we were there, and they were fine. She has been eating normally.

She was randomly urinating throughout the cage. We’ve finished the metacam, and she only had 2 incidents of not urinating in the litter box.

We switched over to gabapentin to use long term for her hocks.
