        Hi All

I’m really worried for my bun. For the past two weeks I’ve noticed her not eating as much as she should be and now just tonight I’ve seen white mucus at her nose. My bun had a health check not to long which is why my parents didn’t let me bring her to the sooner…. But I knew there was something going on it looked like anorexia to me as she was of her food. I was originally at the vet two weeks ago (yes) to ask for advice about a fibre suppliment for my bun as she doesn’t eat hay (it’s very strange for a rabbit to not like hay). I’ve been giving her fibreplex and within the last days before the mucus appeared I gave her some critical care as I was concerned for my bun. I’m unsure if there’s anything stuck up her nose but I Assume it’s snuffles. My bun has a very week immunity as she’s always getting ill and I am unsure how to help her immunity get better. Her brother has never gotten Ill (seriously he’s never been ill it’s insane!). I’m concerned for my bun as I can’t take her immediately to the vet tomorrow as I’ve uni to go to and I won’t be back til late afternoon. I’m just so concerned for her. I know snuffles is contagious but I can’t get out of uni can anyone give me advice ? Also can rabbits get snuffles from budgies? I recently got 2 but I keep them in my room and I don’t let them near my buns for fear of something like this…. I wash my hands every time I’ve touched my animals and I even wipe my clothes. I hope my bun didn’t get ill from my budgies…. The boy bun has the no mucus or any signs of illness. The girl bun is the one that’s ill. Can anyone suggest anything that I can use to increase my buns immunity and any type of hay that she’ll eat? I’ve tried every brand and she doesn’t eat it

Sorry if it’s hard to understand I wrote this in a rush
I’m also very concerned (as you can tell)

White mucus most likely indicates an infection. I’m not familiar with snuffles but it could be some sort of upper respiratory infection (URI) since they have very sensitive tracts or like you said, something could be stuck up there that is irritating her nose. Illnesses can develop quickly in bunnies so within these two weeks something could’ve easily happened. Either way it sounds like she needs to be checked out by a vet. Unfortunately an ill rabbit can cost quite a lot of money and care so it’s important that your parents understand this as well.

          Is your vet rabbit savvy?

What’s her overall diet like and have you tried other kinds of hay rather than just switching the brand? If you’re currently giving timothy hay and she doesn’t like it, you could try other kinds of grass hay like orchard grass, oat hay or meadow hay. Orchard grass in particular is a favourite for many buns as it’s sweeter and softer than timothy so you could start with that. Oxbow is a common brand but you could try other brands as well
