Today my beautiful Clover passed away while being spayed, just as anaesthesia was going in. She was only one. My other bunny Willow, is now recommended not to have the operation since it might be a genetic issue. I was wondering if i leave her on her own or add a neutered male bunny. I definitely cannot get Willow spayed.

You can definetly add a neutered male. As long as he is out of puberty, his character matches your female’s and you go through proper bonding it should be fine. I recommend going to a rabbit resue where you can speed date with your rabbit, so that you can pick the one that is the best match for your female.

Thank you! The only reason my parents are saying no, is because the reason we got them spayed in the first place was because my bunny Willow was biting Clover, which drew blood a bit. A rescue near me does a thing where they take my bunny in for up to a week and bond her with a suitable bunny?

There may be issue that your rabbit is not spayed. Unfixed rabbits can bring our hormonal behavior in fixed rabbits, so that may be in issue. I’d request to have blood work done to test whether she can get through a spay. If the vet’s words were verbatim “it might just be genetic”, I sort of question that. That may be true, but it sounds like a blanket excuse. I’d be curious what the vet did prior to operation to make sure it was safe for her to undergo it.
