        Update: December 16, 2007

Zoe continues to recover. She has three more weeks of penicillin G under the care of Dr. Harvey in Hayward. She is now up to her ideal weight and is looking and acting very healthy. After her next three week course of antibiotics in December, we anticipate that she will be well enough to be adopted into a special loving home of her own. Her wounds are completely healed, she is spayed and is as sweet as she can be. Give Zoe some thought. She is a darling girl. Zoe

This beautiful little princess is named Zoe. She has been through her fair share of trauma yet she is still loving and gentle. She was dumped at the shelter with pus filled bite wounds, and abscesses on both feet. While at the shelter her abdomen was shaved in preparation for her spay and to check for wounds. She apparently had a respiratory infection that was not detected prior to surgery and went into respiratory distress while under anesthesia. With pus filled wounds, and the added respiratory condition she was deemed unadoptable and her name went to the top of the euthanasia list. We could not allow that to happen. You don’t condemn a beautiful creature to death when all she needs is proper medical care, love and a little time. She was first placed on an oral antibiotic and kept in isolation care. Because her infection was more advanced than originally thought she did not respond well to oral antibiotic therapy.

        Zoe's abscessed foot

Abscesses on her feet filled with pus, requiring them to be opened and cleaned out. Chest and sinus congestion continued to worsen. Her surgical site continued to be inflamed and not heal. Plan “B” was quickly put into effect. Abscesses on her feet where irrigated daily and dressed, her surgical wound was cleaned three times daily and to help thin out the thick mucous in her sinuses she received mist treatments. She was also placed on Pen G injectable for the month of November. After only a few days of treatment her little body is responding well. Wounds are healing, chest and sinuses are clearing and the surgical site is looking great. She is a wonderful patient who calmly accepts her wound care, respiratory treatments and her injections with out a fuss. She is truly a little Princess. At the end of her antibiotic therapy she will be ready for a new and loving home. She is very special and after all that she has been through she deserves the best.

Update: Zoë is a darling bunny who has tested positive for pasteurella. She sneezes occasionally – She needs to be placed in a home that understands this medical condition. The illness is manageable. She is so lonely for a family to love her.

Zoe is definitely one  of ours (Rabbit Haven of Scotts Valley, CA).  I just did not realize that someone else was posting on her behalf, probably the foster family.
