Well its been a good few weeks now, Diesel is weeing in his cage before he comes out. Not see any large puddles anywhere. I get the do small one now and again, most of the time after i have stroked him, think he is still nervous. But I am getting pellets still, mainly the small hard ones i clear them up as soon as i see them but as most of the time he is cleaning himself when they are made, not sure want to do. Should i start teaching him to only clean himself in his tray?. The one thing i have found funny is that when he is naughty and goes when he no meant to and gets told off he runs and sits in his tray and looks sheepish!

aw. he sounds so cute! i’m not sure if you can teach him to only clean himself in his cage… i suppose you could try, but i’m not sure what kind of results you would get. the fact that the pee is contained is a great thing! keep picking up the pellets. it seems like things are going pretty well.

by putting up the pellets will he understand not to drop them there and only do the business in the tray where i put them or in the cage?

yes, cleaning up his droppings & leaving some in his litter box will definitely help him understand where they belong.  tho you should be prepared that he may never be 100% trained.  of course some buns will leave droppings outside the litter if the litter is too full, or sometimes to mark new territory, but in general this technique works pretty well.

I don’t think you need to worry about teaching him to clean inside his litterbox, the concept of putting the poops in the box is that by getting them all in there, he will understand that is where they belong in the first place. Keep up the good consistency that you are using up to this point, and I think you will really see improvements!
