        Hi,

I took Cinnamon into a more rabbit savy vet last week.  I brought x-rays and paperwork from 1st vet. At the time of the visit he was not able to tell me what was causing Cinnamon’s abscesses.  But once he got the report from the radiologist he was able to tell me that it is an abscessed tooth root.

So we will continue with the antibiotic shots for a few more months, as it still may kill the infection.  If not, then we will have to consider surgery.

What I learned from all of this that someone else may learn from also:

        1.  Always get a culture when rabbit has a discharge (1st vet did not do this, so for months I did not know what Cinnamon had).

        2.  Always have x-rays sent to be read by a radiologist (1st vet did not see anything, 2nd vet thought he did, radiologist did see something).

        3.  Rabbit savy vets are wonderful.

        ~Laura

That’s great advice and Cinnamon is beautiful. I hope he is better soon – it sounds like he is on his way to good health.

Thanks for the notes! I have not had too much experience with anything other than the typical vet visits so this is good to know. Good Luck to Cinnamon, he’s a very beautiful bun!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.  I am only sorry that it took so many tries to find the right vet and get to the bottom of Cinnamon’s health problem.  I hope that the antibiotics work well and he won’t have to have surgery.  Also, with abcesses in rabbits sometimes the vet will pack the area with a gel-foam or antibiotic beads if they can access it so that might be another option you might want to discuss with your new rabbit savvy vet. Poor Cinnamon, hugs from Daffodil, Bonsai and myself.

                  cinnamon bun, lol

Sometimes my husband calls him CinnaBON.

Dang, then we want one, they are the BEST cinnamon rolls!

Cinnamon now has black ears and paws; he has been changing colors over the last month or so.  His back looks like an oil slick.

I’m such a foodie…that was the first thing I thought of when I read the cinnamon post…CINNABONS!  Maybe he will develop some vanilla colored swirlies and then you can officially change his name to cinnabon?

Good Luck w/ his Abcesses.  Leo survived his own tooth traumas.  Keep some oxbow critical care on hand in case he won’t eat!

I have never heard of Oxbow critical care before, so I will look for it.  Thanks, I learned something new!

Laura, I second keeping some critical care on hand. You can buy it from your vet’s office and some rescue groups. IMHO, it’s the best choice if you need to assist feed a bunny.
