Hi all!  I posted here about a different topic but figured I would bring back some good news.

About 2 years ago we got Chewy.  After a month of having her, we realized she had a big abscess in her cheek.  Her previous owners never noticed.  We had 2 separate surgeries, but both times they told us it was in her jaw bone and there was nothing much else they could do if i didn’t want to remove most of her jaw.

We started her on batril oral medicine daily and penicillin injections every 2 days.  It’s been at least a year since this regimen has started and she is still a VERY happy-go-lucky bunny.  The vet can’t believe that the medication worked so well and said “I can’t believe this bunny is still alive!”

So, I was once a despondent poster here and I wanted to let you guys know that with medication diligence sometimes your bun can live with an absess for a long time.  We don’t know how long we will have with her left, but just wanted to let you guys know that an absess isn’t always a death sentence.  Obviously it doesn’t always turn out so well and the owners have to be committed to the treatment.   I just wanted to share my story if anyone needed any hope.

Thats great.    You are giving the shots  yourself?     Bunny has you to be thankful to for her long life and being in good shape otherwise.   Cool

My hubbie and I alternate giving the shots.  It makes us both uneasy.  We were shown how to do it by the vet.

OH the first time I gave Cotton a shot  my stomache had butterflies and did flip flops.

Us rabbit people are so squeamish about hurting our bunnies in anyway.   Even tho shots really dont hurt much.

I am glad you and hubby are up for it tho.

Good news is always welcome.  There is lots of hope for abcesses in bunnies.
