Hi everyone!  Just wanted to give you an update after I took Chewy to the vet.  We drove to our old vet about 45 minutes away and it was pretty positive.

The vet said that he was going to open up her jaw a little bit again and drain the absess to make her more comfortable.  He also said that one of her teeth were overgrown which may be causing some discomfort, so he is going to trim that, and she should be feeling a lot better after that.

Obviously we are just buying 6 months to a year, but we love her so much and she is my favorite of all my pets (yes, even over our dog…)

He gave her some pain medicine in the meantime.

I asked about the noises she is making, which a few posters asked me.  The vet thought that the tooth may be going up into her nasal cavity which can be causing the low wheezing noises, and also some nasal discharge.

I am so happy my sweet Chewy is home tonight.

That IS good news! I am so glad you made the drive and just got her fixed up for the new year. It’s not a bad schedule to be able to go 6 mos. before your next visit with a chronic condition. Your vet sounds very experienced and gentle with her. She’s gorgeous, too.

Such a beauty! She and Frankie would make great bookends together.

I’m glad your vet’s able to buy you some more time with her. My little old man Toby has teeth problems also and makes strange noises. Next time he goes in for a trim I’ll ask the vet about what your vet suggested with the teeth and nasal cavity. It alarms me to hear him wheeze but she checks him and says his lungs are clear and she doesn’t find a respiratory problem.

Huzzah for Chewy! I’m not familiar with the problem, but I’m happy to hear she’s going to be just fine nonetheless.
Not too bad a start for the new year.

She is so beautiful- you can see that she has a lot of personality just from the photo!  Best wishes and I hope that your loving care keeps her with you as long as possible.

                              KRALSPACE:

Hi!  Sorry this post is late, and I don’t know if you will see it, hope so.

I wanted to respond about your wheezing issue.  Is it mainly when your rabbit seems sleepy?  I also have a lop named Flops and she wheezes a lot when she is resting so I think its just snoring.  (I think its kind of like when Pugs make noises because they have a flat face).  Our first vet was baffled and put her on some antihistamines because she thought it was allergies.  But as time went by, I noticed that she did it when she was laying down and relaxing.  The vet checked her a long time ago, and same thing, lungs were clear, no nasal discharge.

I don’t know why, but for Chewy, she was making the noises when she was nervous and being held.  It could have been uncomfortable for her.  Also check for the nasal discharge.
