Update: Fuzzy: Monday

I have  a call in to the vets office to talk to him by phone tomorrow.  The vet has lots of specialized dental equipment,  and knowledge about teeth.   he’s had extra training with different vets around the country.   He’s on top of it.   I don’t think its a matter of him not knowing what is going on;  its a matter of him being honest with me and telling me he’s NOT SURE what is going on.   Sometimes it seems that Fuzzy is getting back to eating hay, but then he stops eating hay.   I bought the softest hay avaiilable to me in the store. As far as pellets go,  he has eaten only Bunny Basic T from oxbow since I adopted him 5 years ago.   Its not the vet who is giving up on Fuzzy,  its me getting to a breaking point with him.   Fuzzy makes it clear he does not like the CC feedings.   I can only get him to eat out of a feeding syringe,  but he runs and hides when  its time for a feeding.   Also,  he IS eating his pellets.   The vet did mention a few weeks ago that if enough time has gone by,   Fuzzy might need another molar reduction (tooth grinding).   It might be time to recheck him for that.   There are no other vets offices within driving distance for me that treat rabbits.   The distant ones would send me to this office anyway.   I don’t mind CC feedings,  but Fuzzy acts like he absolutely hates it.      Fuzzy doesn’t realize he needs to eat hay.   

I had another rabbit once who didn’t get back to eating hay after a tooth grinding.   It was a different vet.  He rechecked the teeth, did another tooth grinding, and that did the trick.   I have doubts about this vet missing an overgown point because he is careful and thorough.   He did say that if enough time goes by he might need another tooth grinding,  just given the 6-8 weeks  minimum it takes for teeth to grow back.   Pepperoni can usually go for 6 months before he needs more molar reduction.   A vet told me once that some rabbits need it only once a year.

Well, it sounds like you and the vet are on top of things then!

Some rabbits never ever get molar spurs their whole life and some it’s a constant problem.

Does the vet say why he feels Fuzzy might be prone to molar spurs?

I have a rabbit Pepe who I just started to have his molar spurs trimmed too – he was fine and then boom – so far I’ve had to have them trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks! My first rabbit had a constant molar problem too.
