Update: Do your bunnies do this too?

Greetings everyone! So my bunny, Bright has been doing so well and he’s doing so much better… When we first got him he was really reclusive and didn’t like being around people at all… Perhaps it was because he was a breeding rabbit? I’m not sure…

Anyways, he’s gotten a lot friendlier and more comfortable with his surroundings… It’s getting hotter here (luckily we have a ground floor basement so he’s in our rec room, in the basement) so he seems to mostly like to lie around and nap a lot (I put his veggies in the freezer to cool them down a bit…)

I was wondering if your bunnies do these things as well:

Whenever I come in the room he’ll hop right over to me, sometimes honking as if he’s saying hello to me

We keeps his veggies in the downstairs fridge so whenever I open it he comes hopping over and oinking/honking like he knows he’s going to get something

He likes to come over and nudge my feet with his nose a lot… I feel like he’s trying to get my attention so I generally give him pats or play with him and his play carrot

He also likes o greet the cat whenever he senses she’s around, she wants nothing to do with him so I feel kind of bad for him xD I think she still needs some assurance that he isn’t dangerous…. He certainly likes her though!

Do your bunnies do any of these things?

He’s also almost completely litter trained! He never pees outside his litter box and almost never poops outdside of his cage! I reward him when I see him using the litter pan with treats (I found out he likes pieces of apple and nectarine for treats xDD)

So he’s doing really well and I am so pleased that it finally feels as though he’s my companion…

My bunny, Sunshine, did that all the time until we lost him at 11 years of age. He knew his treats were coming. Is Bright neutered? My 4 month old is not neutered yet and follows us around like a dog, something Sunshine used to do as well. He often humped our feet, too. But that behavior really calmed down once he was neutered.  Makes me reluctant to neuter this one, but I feel I really need to. The occasional poops they leave can be a marking behavior. We had a house bunny that did that until we neutered him, and then it stopped, though I don’t expect perfection in that department.

Cookie always goes crazy when he hears his bin containing his pellets being opened. Same for your bunny, bright. You said he will come hoping to you when the refrigerator door containing his veggies is opened. Pretty much before our bunnies are getting food they hear the same sound and see the same movement. So then after a while they will recognize the sound or the movement when it happens and will automatically think “food”. Which results to them hopping over to you. As for his nudging your feet, Cookie does that to me often. Usually out of seeking attention.This is just body language. Pretty much he is communicating with you. Sometimes he does this to me when he asking me to make room so that he could pass.

Yeah, Chester does the refrigerator thing a lot. He doesn’t honk, but he’ll come over and beg for food smarty pants. He also nudges my feet, specially if I’m working on the computer and not paying attention to him. He even got to the point of jumping on the couch and getting is paws on the computer. I had to stop writing to pet him, of course

Yesterday Chester decided I’ve had enough time to nap, so he nudged me on the nose until I woke up!

lol Bright did that with the guy I live with, Wes the other day… Wes took a nap on the couch and Bright jumped up onto his chest and nudged him until he woke up xDD He’s such a cheeky little bugger..

Also @Megabunny, no he’s not neutered yet, the vet says she’s reluctant to have it done because she doesn’t know how old he is so she suggests waiting to see if his behaviour calms down… He doesn’t hump as much anymore and he rarely poops about the house and he doesn’t pee anywhere so perhaps I don’t need to have it done at all..

Sounds like a smart vet. My last guy did well for 7 or 8 years then had a tumor so we were forced to neuter him. But he was outside a lot, so I don’t know how he would have done inside. Enjoy that little guy!!

That’s so cute your bunny wakes you up. One of mine does too. Mine are free-roam in the entire house and after a test period of using an x-pen for them, I reverted back to free roam.

In the last three days one of my buns (Bunneh) has again taken to jumping on my bed and giving my arm a light nip to wake me up.. at 4:30am. I figured it was breakfast time for them. Turns out he wanted me to pet him as well as give him breakfast.

Its impossible to be angry with something so darned cute.

And yes, as soon as I walk into the kitchen and before the fridge door opens, I hear the patter of little feet coming. They know where all the good stuff comes from!

Free roam bunnies? That would be the best!!

lol my bunny has free roam of the house as well xD He doesn’t like going upstairs though because I guess he doesn’t like walking on hardwood so he generally stays downstairs with me… The cat doesn’t bother him and he likes to explore…

PeachyCream. He sounds really cute. Picture please. My bunny Tamariz can be upstairs in her den but if the fridge door is opened she appears at your feat faster than lightening. Same with the cupboard door where pellets are kept. Super sonic hearing. She stands on her back legs and begs for food. She gets a fruit treat at breakfast time so when the door of her room is opened in the morning she races downstairs and sits next to her bowl. If we take too long finding the banana / apple etc. we get a pretty loud thump. Stroppy little madam!

As for nudging…we get tonnes of that. Especially if we have dared to sit up on the sofa instead of with her on the floor. If nudging our feet doesn’t get us back down she leaps up and sits on us and gives us kisses.
