so, i have one spayed female bun (tippy)  and one intact male bun (arthur). he is getting neutered september 18th. i had a good feeling about them being together because whenever i would let them hangout through the pens, arthur would groom tippy while she flopped. so, tonight i thought “eh, i’ll give it a shot” so, i brought them both in the bathroom (this wasn’t my first bond, i have done 1 before) and put them both in the tub. there was no mounting/humping. arthur groomed tippys ears and face. they just hung out together  any opinions? are there any reasons not to put them together until arthur is neutered? thanks!

Putting them together is a big leap in the bonding process, but the tub sessions, maybe once a day, are very good for getting them acquainted and used to each other. I would suggest reading the bonding section from the Info drop down menu above and be thoroughly prepared with the steps of bonding. Then just let them meet for a time, supervised, daily to get them used to each other. Once he is neutered, and at least 2-3 weeks after, you can begin serious bonding work leading to permanent togetherness. But his hormones will be erratic until then and it can turn abruptly. Also, you don’t want to break a strong bond with a separation from the neuter. He will smell a bit different after the procedure, so she might not be gentle with him at first. Sounds very, very promising!

I don’t think there’s any harm in continuing to do bonding sessions, but I wouldn’t move them in together until after the operation. There’s a good chance that Arthur’s hormones will kick in and he’ll only be able to think about one thing which will just annoy your girl bun.
