Ok, I just built my 3 year old bunny, Ginger, a nice big "condo" with 2 floors for her to jump to but she doesn’t seem at all interested in going onto her upper levels. She hangs out on the ground floor all the time. I have tried to incise her with treats and toys, but she’s not really interested in toys either. I do let her run around outside, supervised of course, so she’s getting her exercise but I was just wondering if it took any other bunnies a while to get comfortable with their multi-level condos and if y’all have any sugestions.

Newbie here but had the same problem. Milli has a large indoor dog "cage" for her cage time and I added a new level for her. It took about a week and a few treats to get her to go on it. She does now but not that often unless I hang treats from the cage roof. Maybe just patience and eventually bun will get there.

hi Spiffytiffy – welcome to Binky Bunny!

When I first moved my two bunnies into a condo, Viktor was leaping all three floors that day. Pandora was much more nervous and it took her close to a week to really explore and use the upper floors. Does the condo have a ramp or step? I found that once I added a step she had less hesitation about going up the floors. You might also consider moving something exciting (like her veggies) up there and see if that helps prompt her to find it.

Thanks guys! I thought about a ramp but I figured if she can jump up onto my bed &couch she can jump up onto the levels, but I will try one. Would wood be the best material? Also, random question, Do rabbits like to swim?? Just curious!

All it took for Pepper to get the hang of it was for me to put a couple of treats on the various levels, and then I picked her up and put her on the highest level.  That way all the exploring was "down".  Once she had actually been on all the levels and seen what was there, she was fine.

Both of my girls have several stories (picture under cool habitats) made out of those NIC cubes. Each also has those colorful rabbit waffle houses. Neither goes in them but likes to lounge on the top of them. My Carrera likes her waffle house near her shelves and uses them as an extra step to get up to the second and third shelf. She can get up without it  but I think she likes to use it anyway.

Little Pookie is a 2lb dwarf and her second shelf is a foot off the ground. I was worried in making hers as high as Carrera’s so what I did was actually put a shelf between the floor and the second shelf. She is so light it stays in place fine. And she usually only sits/sleeps on that short shelf.

I built Medusa one, but I ended up taking it apart because it was pretty pointless since most of the time she preferred to be in other parts of the room like under my bed or under the desk. She did sleep on the top levels sometimes but mostly on the bottom. And who could blame her….if I was an animal I probably wouldn’t want to go in the caged condo either.

When my bunnies were in the cube condos they preferred the top level and it was four levels high! They really did like hanging out in there (though they also had tons of freedom to roam). WIth Forrest, my first rabbit, he explored every level. Rucy was the next bravest, and Bailey took a few days to check it out, and Jack, well Jack is always the last to explore. The only way he ended up going to the top was because he missed his gal Rucy who hung out there.

Depending on how big your bunny is, can she stand on her feet and see a bit of the next level. Some bunnies do not feel comfortable jumping into the unknown and so even if you are able to provide a temporary ramp or box or even pillow that she can get up on so she can look at the next level. After my bunnies were comforable with all levels, they no longer needed “boosters”

The therapy bunnies all have multi-level cages.  The only tentative bun was Jessica…it took her a week b/f she went up to the second level…and that was w/ a ramp!  The 3 cages are ferret cages and they all have ramps.  Sometimes Trigger lounges on the ramp…kind of like he’s lounging on his side.  Its really funny!

Since Jess moved in w/ the cats, she has a single level cage.  We bought the cubes a few weeks ago and are planning on "moding" her original cage.  However, we need to get something to cut into the original cage (like bolt cutters).  We’re going to try to use a dremel this week.  I’ll be sure to post pics after we put together her new digs.

i just bought my bunny a box condo a week ago..
of course at first, he wasn’t very comfortable because i put him on the second level
(it only has 2 levels by the way)
he stayed there for like half an hour trying to figure out how to get off you know…
                              and guess what he did;
                              he jumped off!!!
and i think he landed hard…
but it didnt hurt him for sure…
oh and i noticed that the carton is to slippery for my rabbit,
and so i went to walmart and bought a velvety fabric and stapled it to the flooring
                              so it wont be slippery..
                              and it worked!
he actually stays there most of the time because he doesnt have a cage..
but yeah he knows where his “house” is…..
                              hope this helped…
