I left my rabbits out last night (crashed early and slept late) and apparently they got to an eraser my boyfriend left on the bottom shelf of a bookcase.  Unfortunately, while they didn’t eat the whole thing, they ate a good portion of it.  (I’m not actually sure who ate it, or if they both ate it).  Apart from watching their intake, output, appetite and general level of activity, is there anything else I should do before the vet’s opens up tomorrow?  (It’s a holiday in the US, Thanksgiving).

Lots and lots of hay – but they should be OK… was it a rubber eraser, or like a cloth fiber one for a blackboard? Powder ate all the rubber buttons off my remote control once because he hopped onto the bed and found it tasty, they will eat the weirdest things. Hopefully they just pass it out and it doesn’t give them any tummy problems.

It was a vinyl eraser–like for art projects.  I remember Flipflop ate all the rubber buttons off of my remote control, too, and she was fine, so hopefully they’ll be ok.

 They should be okay, remember lots of water. And, if there happens to be some kind of blockage the vet would know. You said they are going to the vet tomorrow?

That’s scary when they eat stuff like that. Bindi ate a rubber elastic once and Stormy recently ate most of the rubber grip off a pen and they were fine.

What is it with these bunnies eating rubber?? BunBun has eaten all the buttons off my remote (obviously a delicacy to rabbits). He chews the rubber handles off of scissors if he can get them, and when the kids were wearing those rubber bracelets called Silly Bands, he ate one of those too. At the time I was a wreck, but he was fine. I’ve come to the conclusion that the really dangerous things (besides anything toxic) are long things that won’t break down in their stomachs, like string, cords and such. Also- those brooms with the vinyl bristles are pretty scary. Bunbun got a hold of my broom the other day, ripped a bristle off and was just about to eat it when I grabbed it out of his mouth. He seemed to think it was hay.

Flip-flop, another bunny I had in the past… loved nothing better than a good nom on my remote control.  While I no longer have a t.v. (not rabbit-related that I don’t have a t.v.–just don’t own one any more) I still need to be better about rabbit proofing, clearly.  

The rabbits seems to be doing fine.  Simon got out of the pen this morning (apparently he’s either grown opposable thumbs and figured out how to open the gate from the inside of the pen, or I accidentally left it open/improperly latched last night) and was happily running amuck when I got up. 

Olive was inside the pen; don’t know if she got out and hopped back in or not.  I tempted Simon back in the pen with a bite of apple, I think.  But nothing looked misplaced or chewed upon.

Both bunnies seem to have good appetites, regular energy/activity levels, and are drinking and poo’ing normally, so I’m not going to take them to the vet unless I see signs they are frankly ill.  Will keep everyone updated as things progress!

I agree with what everyone else is saying- you just need to keep an eye on the bunnies and make sure they have normal habits- eating, drinking, pooing and behavior. Rabbits seem to find that sort of texture irrestible.
