Okay so non bunny related entirely but I’ve hit my limit. On my short frame of 5’2″ I am at almost 135lbs and I can’t take it anymore. I’ve always been the one to say “oh I don’t mind my body” or just be sort of okay with the fact that I’ve always had a litte more curves but now I’m tired of feeling unhealthy I liked being curvy when I weighed 120lbs. I keep “promising” myself to get on a program and seriously do something about this but I’m terrible. Also I’m a student and can’t afford much of a gym membership or anything like that. However I am not giving up!!!! So anyone have any tips on programs/diets (healthy ones) or anything that you’ve found works for you. I’d like to loose about 15lbs but I’d be happy with 10 at this point! Another thing that hinders me is I recently tore my MCL so I can only do a LIMITED amount of running. Anyways I figured I’d turn to the people that help me in any other crisis!! And hopefully that weight loss wagon doesn’t mind coming back to pick up those who abandoned ship!!!

Oh I wanted to revive these posts Just joined a gym and lost four pounds, with only three sessions so far, and a week and half!!!
The key here for me was getting a friend to join with me and we don’t exchange phone numbers (so no cancelling ) we HAVE to go or you let the other one down.

The only other trick I have is I tried those Hoodia pills and they really work -cut your appetite in half.

Anyone else have tips? Would love some easy to make low fat stuff

I tried Weight Watchers over a year ago and it helped me lose 21 lbs. I have regained since then, but went off WW and took some meds that actually caused excessive weight gain so that really did me in. In fact, I’ve been thinking about WW again this fall.

It does cost $. However, if you are starting by just looking for low fat recipes, I highly recommend their website, their cook books (major sale price at Costco), and their products which includes Smart Ones frozen dinners if you don’t like to cook.

Walk, don’t run. You’d be amazed at how much aerobic workout you get when you just circle the campus or block or office building twice a day. Swing your arms, take a buddy for chatting, and be gentle but brisk.

Drink lots and lots of water. It fills you up and flushes out fat, believe it or not. My niece the PhD chemist told me, when I asked her where the fat goes, that it breaks down from the cells it’s stored in and is released and washed away so to speak. More water in, more water out. I’m pretty sure that’s what she said.

Now, if only I would take all of my own advice…sigh.

LOL I’m right with you there rabbitpam..I’ve had alot of luck doing what you said but I just cannot get myself back on track!!! I have the WW at home kit.

Speaking of which..like rabbitpam was saying, you can get alot of info on them for free so if anyone would like I can put in your info and find your daily points target for you

I have a friend who was/is on weight watchers its working really well for her.. so I thought about doing the same thing.. hmmm she also suggested just buying the “points book” and looking into some of their recipies for healthier meals. I can usually control my eating habits pretty well. I really enjoy healthy foods and drink a ton of water, I’m just easily tempted by fast food and chips lol. I think for me its more about excercising. I can eat heathly I know I don’t need the junk food, but I need to excercise more. I think I am going to try what rabbitpam said and go for long walks instead of running. I have a “punch pass” at a gym now so I have 9 more visits to use up.. I could keep buying the punch pass but its expensive and I’m really not comfertable at that gym. Hahah now my sisters begging for a Wii Fit doesn’t seem all that annoying… I wonder if you can actually get a work out.. she claims you can.

I’m struggling with ya too girl!!! I eat very healthy (vegetarian, mostly vegan) but the big prob is finding the time and energy to exercise! There’s always something else than needs to be done.

It’s getting to the point where I’m starting to feel bad for my horse

That’s how I feel! I have the best intentions to excercise and then something else comes up. With school starting again I’m worried I’m going to put on more weight because I’ll have even less free time.. at least I’ll be walking around campus alot..

You know, I find that those of us who are at the low end of the 5 foot range seem to have this problem with just taking off the 10 pounds or so. I am 5’4″ and with all the walking and arm swinging and water drinking I am doing, sadly I’ve gone from 135 this month to 140! And you’re right, it is UNCOMFORTABLE!
But I find too that, since we’re not trying to lose large amounts of weight, we are sometimes greeted with the “Oh you’re not really fat!” line from friends, coworkers or family. Even my doctor told me, “Well now you’re becoming like the rest of us.” >.< (I came THIS close to slugging him!)
Now I’m on maintenance medication for my cancer remission which probably has a lot to do with my situation…plus I’ll be 45 this week upcoming. *gag*

But I hope my seat on the wagon is still there, cause I’m running as fast as I can waddle to catch up with it! I want to lose 35 pounds, as I was never happier than I was at 105. Let ’em call me a stick! I’ll wear it loud and wear it proud! ^_^

I find the same thing Mimz! I get told all the time that “you’re not heavy!” “You’re no where near fat!” and I know that might to true on average but unfortunately I know I’m not feeling healthy and I know my body looks alot different than it used to. Also it doesn’t help that both my siblings are the eat-anything-i-want-and-still-have-chisled-abs type of people. My brother is a football player so.. okay he’s forgiven.. I would love to be 110 or even 115 again but I’m just not sure that’s going to be possible.. after I hit puberty it’s been a steady climb since then. But I think if I could get down to 120lbs again I might feel more motivated to keep going depending on how I feel at that weight. I do walk alot right now but I seem to be gaining weight more than anything, I never thought it might be stress related. I’ve been at a terrible job since April, I wonder if this had something to do with my weight gain?

I am also thinking of trying to get back into pilates, when I used to do some dance/color guard (for those who don’t know those are the people who dance/spin flags and stuff in a marching band lol) we did alot of pilates for warm up it’s a great work out. I think I might try to start that up again too.

K&K I thought about what you said about a Buddy system at the gym and realized as I was thinking about it that my school fees include gym membership on campus, it may not be convinient but I have to pay the fee I might as well use the place! I think I’m going to find a friend with a similar schedule and meet up after class.

You guys all make me feel so much better about getting back on track and even falling off track. It just goes to show that BB is good for so much else!!!

Good luck, Samantha! (I used to do color guard too…know exactly what you’re talking about!)

I have a gym membership I pay $40 a month for. And I’ll go 4 times a week for 2 weeks…and then I’ll get busy for a month. Sigh. I try to be kind to myself, and tell myself that any day I go is SO MUCH BETTER than if I don’t…without telling myself I’m a miserable failure for not going. Reward, without punishing. Sort of like having a bunny.

Although if someone had a spray-bottle of water aimed at my face at 6am I’d probably make it to the gym a lot more frequently…

lolz…The only thing aimed at my face at that hour these days is a bunny butt! ^_^ And a well thrown litter box.

Since I’m not winter friendly, we’ve bought a lot of things like a recumbent bike, a bowflex, a stair stepper…meh! It’s no fun exercising that way. So although my two dogs are exhausting to walk, I do that, hey someone has to do it. My kids are even bigger slugs than I am in that department!

But I used to live in California, and spent more time outdoors there…so I think the 9 months of the year indoors is part of the problem too. It’s taken 13 years, but my body just doesn’t work the cheesecake off anymore like it did.

Oooo…Samantha, have you never heard of Doctor Who? ^_^ (rubs hands together and hopes to make a convert)

The Daleks were villains in the Doctor Who BBC series. I first saw them in the movies back when I was a kid. Scared the bejeezus out of me!

Here’s a few piccies that might help explain. You’ve probably seen them before, but never known what they were. (It’s a great series btw, which airs on PBS television in the States.)

                                        lolz…Pimp my pepperpot…..xD

And of course, instead of their constant mantra, “EX-TER-MIN-ATE!” it could be “EX-ER-CISE!” (same thing)

Oh another tip, my friend is a personal trainer (not the one I’m at the gym with, but I do go with him sometimes) and he says if you want to lose weight don’t even bother with cardio-weight train-medium amouts of reps (8-12) of high high weight (you shouldn’t be able to comfortable finish your last set)….Anyways that”s what I’m trying …BIG fan of the no cardio although we do about ten minutes to warm up!

One more tip: Measure yourself all over and write it down. I know, that’s the most painful part, but don’t forget arms, legs (theighs, calves, the works) and neck. The point is that the scale is not the best measure of weight change for the better. As you work out and burn fat, you build muscle so the pounds can redistribute. When I was 18, a freshman in college, I packed on some pounds, but went on a diet and to a gym and though I only lost 6 lbs. I lost 9 1/2 inches! (Total of 1 here, 2 there.) In other words, my waist reappeared and my upper arm muscles grew from spaghetti to actual little muscles. So I looked much better & felt much better.

Must be off to work. Overslept. (alarm clock? wazzat???) Worst part is that I woke up finally from a bad dream.

A co-worker sent me a link to a website for office workouts that you can squeeze into your work day.  It’s the best!  My favorite for your abs is to sit in your chair, hold the arm rests with your hands, and lift your knees towards you chest.  It really works your abs!  And you can do this multiple times a day (when nobody is looking of course, otherwise, you’re going to get funny faces in your direction!)

K&K – I have a friend who is working to be a personal trainer and is also professional wrestler he doesn’t live near me anymore but I’m going to ask him for some information on the weight lifting exercises I could do because this is an area where I am clueless and could use help! He said the same thing that the best way to tone and lose weight isn’t through cardio.

Rabbitpam thats great advise I’m going measure myself so I can keep track of inches because I would like to build more muscle.

haha I went and searched after I posted. I saw a commercial for Torchwood on our “Space” Channel here and saw that it had James Marsters in it (turns out it was only for 3 episodes but oh well!) I am a HUGE James Marsters fan because of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel series and that’s where I got interested in the Doctor Who because well I can’t very well watch Torchwood if its a spinoff of another show I’ve never seen! Anyways… now I’m spending some time on ebay…. lol

Torchwood kind of flashed by my TV screen about a year ago, right after the short Jekyl series. (very good was Dr. J, BTW). It seemed like it only had about 3 episodes, which i missed. 2 pts. for having heard of it?

Time to date myself again (maybe I don’t get dates because I already am dating myself? I digress…) I used to watch Dr. Who every Saturday morning at my friends’ Helen & Steve’s apartment in Queens, with their 4 year old son, for months. It was the 80’s!!! He was the curly haired Dr. with the big nose. MM, you know “Who” I mean.

agonyaw – I just know I’d try the chair exercise on the office chair on wheels and go shooting into the hallway.

LMAO, Pam that is one funny mental image! I have the wheelie chair too, so I’ll race ya’! xD

Yes, I can barely remember him myself (Dr. Curly Who), and honestly, I liked the first Doctor of the new series better, but I’ve warmed to the most recent one.

We’re just up to the eppy now where we’re going to lose Rose Tyler, his human traveling companion. If I have any gripes with this version it’s that the character turnover is a bit much.

I am still looking for Dr. Who and the Daleks on DVD, which is the first one I ever saw. I know I can find it at Amazon or B&N, but I’ve been hoping they’d get it in at Blockbuster or something like, so I can preview it first and be sure it’s the right one…as my memory is a bit fuzzy in this regard.

Ugh. I need to lose about 50 lbs…but I’d be happy with 40. I suck at the whole lifestyle change. I’ll do really well for months and months…but all it takes is that ONE trip to McDonalds for it all to come crashing down.

This is my advice to you Samantha (sorry if its duplicated): Watch what you eat—its not always about WHAT you eat but HOW MUCH you eat. Cut back portions. Look for low-calorie, yet filling foods (I love shrimp!) and count your calories. Websites such as http://www.dailyplate.com and http://www.sparkpeople.com have calorie tracking tools and will tell you how many calories to eat a day based on your height, weight, and how much you want to lose!!!

I totally understand the injuries. I lost tons of weight by walking everywhere, but now I’ve messed up my knee and can’t. If you can walk for exercise, walk everywhere you can! Or even park as far away as possible. All these little things add up!

Good luck, I’m rooting for you!!!!!

Allenj1 – I think that’s really my biggest problem is portion control. I signed up on the sparkpeople website to learn how to replace some of the foods I eat for no real reason other than having the “munchies” with more filling healthier foods and I’m finding that the counting calories (or even just being more aware of the calories in everything) really helps to stop and say “do I really need this and is there a better choice”. School starts for me next week and I am trying to promise myself to take advantage of the included rec pass with my tuition. My knee doctor thinks that swimming would be an excellent way to gain back some strength in my knee without causing more harm and a way to keep excercising! Just so happens my school has a pool that I get to unlimited use to AND I love the water!

                                                                                    WOOT! xD

Samantha—swimming is great exercise. Its cool, cuz you don’t really realize your burning  calories!

Another trick is, if you think you’re hungry, but know you shouldn’t be, drink a glass of water. By the time you’re done drinking, you’ll probably forget you were ever “hungry.”

One other thing—don’t ever feel like you can’t have something….such as McNuggets!  If you really want McDonald’s, go for it! Just track it down and if you had McD’s for lunch, it just means you better go lighter on supper or vice versa!

                                                                                      Good luck!

Bad for your teeth but it satisfies the urge to eat AND gets my water intake up. Usually I fill a tall glass with ice so that hardly any liquid fits in the cup and then pour crystal lite or a diet soda over it. I do this with fountain drinks too. There probably aren’t a lot of people who buy a super big gulp and only get 16 oz of soda…lol

I am happy to report that the BB weight loss wagon makes unlimited stops and rounds.   I lost 7 1/2 pounds from just walking briskly for a 1/2 hour, 5 times a week.  I am at the point though where I am going a mile on my elliptical and doing some free weights 2-3 times a week on top of the walking which I just started, so I am hoping to see more results soon. I watch what I eat, cut down on portions and the thing that really helps me is eating raw veggies for lunch, a small breakfast like yogurt and a little granola and a decent-sized dinner.  I am thinking that the measurements are going to be better than the weight because I am beginning to gain muscle mass and if I weigh myself for too long, I will get discouraged if I don’t see the pounds go down even though I am toning up.

Raw almonds will make you feel full as well as taking a fiber supplement.  To make myself drink more water, I add some flavored liquid stevia extract (apricot and chocolate raspberry are my favorites), no calories and no sugar to screw up your glycemic index.  It tastes better than the flavored water sold commercially too.

My walking buddy swims at the rec center 2-3 times a week and it is helping her to lose weight as well.

AND it designs workouts for you, even based on what equipment you have access to! (and those are customizable too!!). Three days on it and counting

Possibly even get a dog walking job with a little company here, haha it might not be too fun in the winter but it would get me out .

K&K – I’ve been using the spark people site too! Where did you find the thing that designs a workout? I haven’t been on that much as I am getting ready for my first week back to school but that would be really handy!!
