What is the typical healing time after neutering? Meaning, special care, as far as jumping up on couches, etc…things like that.

I think my vet had suggested about 2 weeks as the time span for no jumping and daily incision site checks.

He has a 3 story ‘condo” that I made for him, and he does jump partially up the ramp. Do I need to somehow block off some levels? Or do you think that will be ok? He jumps into his litterbox, anyway. I understand to not let him jump up onto the couch or anything that big.

It’s a difficult problem to deal with if the stitches get pulled out or there is an infection or injury, so I would err on the side of caution and block off the upper levels for one week. My vet said no jumping for a week, some vets say 2, so to get the healing well underway, I’d be super strict about heights for a week and see how he’s looking after that.

We may be going out of town about 2.5 weeks after his surgery. I will have a house sitter, but was hoping everything would be ok by then to have someone else watch him. I’m sure my vet will tell me all I need to know, but I was just wondering what other people have went though.

I will probably try to block off the bottom two instead of the top two, because that’s where his litterbox is and he’s use to the set up up there. If I want to get him out, I just place his little carrier in there and he gets right in. Now the fun part-how to safely block off that empty”square”…
