        Do rabbits ever stop shedding?

This is the 3rd time in a week I’ve been having to pluck Chacha’s fur. The fur feels ultra soft, and that is what keeps coming out when I pluck it. I have a feeling that I am no done yet!

Also, can rabbits tooth purr without even being pet?

I was laying on the ground and Chacha flopped right in front of me. She was soooo relaxed and I noticed she was slightly tooth purring

I thought I had read somewhere that they shed about every 3 months?

Dunno about the tooth purring, tell Chacha to speak to Bee about doing that more please.

I’ve read that they usually do a “big” molt every so often, but some rabbits can fluff out a little all the time.

Have you tried using a lint roller? They make some for pets that are gentle and roll very easily. I use them on Remy and Momo. They don’t love it… but they tolerate it, and it’s soooooo nice getting all that loose fur off, at least for a day or two!

I see mine purring all the time when they’re comfy. Sometimes they’ll be lying there and I’ll start talking to them and they’ll start purring at me <3

They usually shed in cycles, but sometimes one shedding period will blend right into another one.

And yes, they will sometimes tooth purr without being petted. Otto will often tooth purr if I talk to him while he’s lounging in the living room. If I actually try to pet him he gets up and runs away though 😛

Lolli never stops shedding apparently. She’ll have periods where it’s more intense. Having the temperature controlled can cause all pets to shed a little all the time with the more intense periods.

I was watching Cats 101 on animal planets and for one of the cat breeds, some expert recommended using old hosiery to remove loose fur. Something to do with the cats fur that i can’t remember, but the hosiery is supposed to pick up the fur really easily. You just put in on your hand and pet them. I don’t know if it will work on a big molt though. I’m going to try it on Lolli one of these days. lol

oO, you mean like panty hose?

I might try a lint roller.. will check out Target today.

It is never ending! And now the shed is going up her back o.O

The living room is pretty controlled, temperature wise. It remains pretty cool, since it is almost underground.

Mocha, I bet the purr reflex is a lot like the lick reflex… some buns do it and some buns don’t, regardless of happiness. I bet your buns are happy buns!!

Mocha, you also might not notice because it’s not audible – mine purr, but I can’t hear it at all, just feel it when I’m petting them. Sometimes I can see them do it and it looks like they’re mumbling or talking.

I can only feel it mostly, if they are laying right next to me sometimes I can hear it, but 98% of the time I only feel the tooth purr.

Yeah, it usually mostly something you feel or can see them doing (like the mumbling). Sometimes it’s just a couple short purrs in a row, sometimes they do the continuous purring thing instead.

Here’s an excellent article on the shedding from Dana Krempels:
