two bunnies is really like four bunnies!

I have mentioned before that I am currently bunnysitting for a friend who’s in between houses.  He’s an adorable little cashmere lop named Professor Babbington.  He’s been living with us for a couple of weeks now and he is so lovely and fits in very well with my little family. BUT OMG, I can’t get over how much more work just one little bunny is.  It’s not DOUBLE the work, but QUADRUPLE the work. It takes 4x longer to feed them — not to mention it seems like they eat 4x more.  They make 4x the mess of one bunny and it takes 4x longer to clean up after.  Not to mention the smell is 4x more.  I feel like I live in a barn, with all the hay and poop shoveling I’m doing.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE having the professor.  He is so sweet.  I’m just FLOORED by it all.  I never would have guess he would have so much of an affect on my routine.  (Just having a bit of a rant, really, I wouldn’t change a thing.)

After the bonding process was over, having two was not much more work than one for me. They share a cage, water bottle, food dishes, litterboxes. I do have to clean up more frequently (this only adds a couple minutes a day to my normal bunny routines), change the litterboxes more often, and I definitely go thru more hay, food and pellets. But it’s worth it to see my Princess Meadow so happy with her husbun. When we got Max, I did say that my food costs tripled instead of doubled. Max is a larger bun than Meadow and he eats more than she does. There was no increase in smell. Max is pretty odorless. Is the Professor unneutered? Unneutered boys tend to stink pretty bad.

They are very cute! His coat takes a lot more brushing too, so maybe that is what is making it seem a lot harder. That’s the one thing about long-haired breeds, while they are ADORABLE, I just don’t know if I would be good enough at keeping a strict schedule for brushing.

I bunny sat a rabbit once that made massive poops. Everywhere. They were HUGE. It was ridiculous.

I think the odor comes from 2 litterboxes (well, 3, if you count the one in the living room) — they seem to fill a lot quicker.

Max’s poops are a bit bigger than Meadow’s, I can only imagine what the poops are like for people with 8, 10, 15 pound bunnies. Wouldn’t that be an interesting thread, pics of poop next to a ruler for size comparison. LOL!

I have only ever had 2 buns.

Well the bunny was about the same size as Frankie, but his poops were like 2x the size. Didn’t help that they were everywhere!
