Just thought I’d share my little story about my mom and Smudge…
While I was away my mom was taking care of Smudge, I know she loves her but small animals have always made her more nervous than a dog or cat would. Also she is constantly joking and teasing me about the amount of pampering Smudge receives and “complaining” about all the toys, blankets and towels that have been donated to her but especially the space her condo takes up in the kitchen. I knew my mom would take excellent care of Smudge but that her play/run time would be cut short a bit because my mom wasn’t comfertable letting her just run around and trying to catch her (in her defense Smudge does give her a really hard time, she lunges at her and till take off with the “chase me” game all the time), but we do have a large play pen big enough for her to run in that I set up and take down when I need her to be a little more supervised. My mom felt so bad that she didn’t always have time during the morning or afternoon to set it all up. So she actually attached the pen to the sides of Smudge’s cage in the kitchen and whenever she was home just opened the door to the condo. I couldn’t believe this! They spent the whole week not being able to open the fridge all the way and side scooting past the pen to get to the hallway lol. She even secured blankets so Smudge wouldn’t slip, added some toys and a phone book as well as an old shirt of mine that I hadn’t washed yet to let Smudge have my smell. It was so sweet. It was also such a treat for the day I got back to see how much Smudge loved her new space and would come out and ineract and lounge on the cold tiles too. But the day after I got back I new I needed to clean the condo and start taking down her little play area all I kept thinking was “ugh how am I going to get to used to the way it was before?”. As I started taking clearing things out my mom comes in and says “Aw honey she loves it so much just leave it up for her you big meany!”
As if I really wanted it all to be put away lol! Anyways to make a long story.. well shorter.. Smudge now owns the majority of our kitchen she comes in and out of the condo as she pleases and also enjoys her regular play time with me too. I even catch Grandma sneeking in to handfeed her a treat every once in awhile.
Smudge would like all those buns out there to know that one more pitiful human has been brain washed into an acceptable bunny-slave therefore further the plans for world domination.
