Tummy question…

Lolli is fine.  I’m probably being a crazy bunny owner again.   When I pick up Lolli, I have noticed that her tummy area is pretty firm.  As in, if i lightly apply pressure, there’s no give.  Eddie was all soft so if he had tummy problems, besides not eatting, I could tell if his belly was doughy or distended.  Is Lolli normal for rexes then?  I just want to find out in case she ever has problems.  Little Miss Curvy has never quit eating, peeing, or pooping, so it’s not been an issue, but like I said, I would like to find out what is normal for her.  Just in case. 

I’m fairly certain her peeing in drops is just how she is.  Every time I’ve watched her, that’s how she’s gone.

It’s pretty hard to describe what a normal tummy feels like and likely everybunny is just a bit different. It’s a really good idea to really know your bunny because then you know what’s normal (harder stomach, softer stomach, big poopies, lots of shedding in funny patterns, slow shedding, attirude etc) and then you know what isn’t normal. So it’s hard to say from what you describe, but perhaps get in the habit of checking their tummies and then you’ll know what’s normal

Ok, thanks. I just didn’t know if maybe tummies were a breed characteristic or something. If that makes sense. lol I never noticed her tummy being any different, even when I got her as a baby. If it’s changed, it hasn’t been dramatic enough for me to realize it or freak out over. I was just making her snuggle the other day and decided I needed to check on here to see if her tummy was normal. lol Lolli hates being handled so I have always respected her wishes and left her alone. I mean, I’d talk to her and try to hang out with her when Eddie was alive. But he was a very jealous boy and, even if he didn’t come over and chase her off, she’d usually give me her “no touching, no talking, no looking” stinkeye look and hop off. lol

Eddie LOVED being held and snuggled so I knew what was normal for him and what wasn’t. He was also an attention hog and got downright mean to Lolli if I paid her any attention even though they were bonded. So now that it’s just her, I’m trying to handle her more. I was laying on the couch with her the other night. I had my hand under her belly and it just occurred to me to maybe check and see about it.

The only time I’ve noticed anything suspicious about her was when she was shedding bad, her poops got smaller. But she never quit eating or anything and her poop is back to normal size.

That’s good. Yes definitely knowing what’s normal helps-because they are all so different. My Rupert has a firmer tummy then Kahlua or Noot but that’s just normal for him and normal for them It’s really the change in what’s normal you want to watch for

So true.   I don’t know why that is the case as you’d think a “tummy”: should feel about the same even with different bunnies, but I really have found a difference.   Rucy always had a soft tummy.   Jack’s has always been more firm, and Viviian’s is somewhere in the middle.  Finding our bunny’s “norm” will help you when your bunny feels “abnormal” to you.

Meadow (mini rex) has a very firm tummy all the time. Max (lop) has a soft, squishy belly. Not sure if it is something to do with breed, or possibly that you would be feeling more fluff on a lop’s belly as compared to a rex’s belly. Also, lops tend to be more stout, so some of it may just be body build.
