so my bunny is named tuna…he is literally my baby. i love and care for him to an extent that is incomprehendable to my family and friends(as do most of us here on binkybunny). his 2nd bday was just on valentines day and i have had him since the beginning….

        anyways, to the point:
i regularly let tuna outside to run around and play. you know, get fresh air, play, let him do his “happy dance” and whatnot. we took a little break, he sat by me and i was petting him and i noticed a silver dollar sized lump between his front leg and stomach.
ive already had a melt down at this point so i just need to know if it is common for bunnies to aquire lumps in their lifetimes AT ALL!?
i would rush him to the vet but i already do everything that i can to provide for him(food, litter, housing, etc) on a students budget
his quality of life is perfectly fine and if that was ever a question i would do anyhting in my power to assure that he is ok and NOT IN PAIN!!!!!!! even if that means taking out a seperate credit card for him. i dont care. like i said, hes my baby.
anyone that can provide me with their similar experiences/advice would be more than appreciated!!!!
        thank you. -shaunna

I haven’t found any lumps myself on my bunnies, but I have several times on my cat. And everytime I rush him to the vet completely freaked out, I’m told that it is a fat lump or that there is nothing there. Not saying that you are on the safe side with your bunny. Really, a vet is the only one who can tell.

Have you been able to feel that lump several times or just this once? How about putting him on the back and try to feel it.

The thing is that even though the lump might feel small, it could be huge on the inside. I’d say you ought to check with a vet. Sorry.

Bunnies tend to get absesses far more than other animals and I would worry about this if I found any bump. I would take him to a vet, especially since that is a pretty large bump for a small animal.

I agree with Karla. There is no way to know anything unless you have a vet do a physical examination. If it is a lump, the vet will need to aspirate it.

Rabbits are very good at hiding illness and pain too – as a prey animal it is their nature to do this. Sometimes it can be obvious but sometimes it isn’t.

My rabbit Pepe has a small lump that is getting larger on his chest area and the vet has aspirated it twice and we are going to remove it. She felt that it was better not to take any chances.

That being said, it could also be an abscess and that is going to require quite a bit of care.

So since you don’t exactly know what the lump is or is not, best to go to the vet.

Do you have an update Shauna? We’re not vets on BB, so for the majority of health issues or things you are unsure about, our advice is going to be “schedule a vet visit.” Legally, we cannot recommend things we don’t know will work or will be appropriate, and even tho we may be experienced with a variety of health problems, we want the best possible care for all the buns here on the site. For that, you need to talk with your vet. Do you have a vet where you live?

Never heard of a fat lump on a rabbit.  Possibly is an abcess or a tumor.  Just my guess.  Either way he needs a vet.  Get well vibes for Tuna bunny

                  Keep us updated please.

BT – there are such thing as lumps that fat based. But shaunna, there is no way for us to know that. Some lumps can mean abscesses and abscesses need to be treated as they can continue to grow and even attach to muscle and bone. However, many can be treated and so it’s best to catch whatever it is now before it grows even more.

                    Keep us updated!

ETA: There is a credit card that is low-interest based and/or at least will allow 3 months to pay off the bill before interest is  applied. It’s called “Care Credit”.  The good thing about it is it can only be used for health care and vet care (that way you can’t be enticed to buy a new pair of shoes with it. )    Anyway, not all vets accept it but I would check with your vet to see if they do.

Also, some vets will work out a payment plan with you.  (not all, but some)  So it’s worth a try to at least ask.  Don’t be ashamed to ask as it’s rough times even for those that are out of college and working! (nor not working )

I would certainly get him to the vet. If there is no way you can right now, then i’d watch it and see what happens. You can also call the vet and see what they think about it.

Also, Happy Birthday Tuna! My pixel’s birthday is supposed to be sometime this month, too. *hands a cake made of carrots and other ummy veggies*
