Try this with your bunny! Nose Wiggling language! Pretty cool!

So on another post cookie asked about nose wiggles and another member mentioned how nose-wiggles can actually be a way to communicate.    I had completely forgotten about that, but I remember trying this with my bunnies before, and they did respond.  .

I just recently did this again with Bailey to try and keep her calm.  When I started nose wiggling, she at first stopped (probably thinking – eeeeek, now that’s attractive!) but then she basically mirrored what I was doing, but she’d always stop and observe for a second first after each change.   I stopped  and watched her to make sure that it wasn’t part of her regular nose wiggling routine, and that I may just  be ready for the funny farm (well, that’s true anyway )    

Remember, since bunnies don’t have the best eyesight, get close enough to your bunny where s/he can clearly see the details of your face.

Ta for that link, it was a great read.    I’m loving Marvin the floppy bunny. 

I’ve noticed Bum will sit for ages if im on the floor facing him, just watching, his nose twitching slowing down, then he puts his head down on the floor in front of him until I get right up to him and rub my nose all over his nose – having to pay attention especially to the sides –  & his head (nice!), then when I stop & get up he disturbs himself and runs around my feet, or if I stop and stay on the floor, he comes right up and nudges my face before hopping onto my back.  I’ll definitely be observing Bum’s twitches when I get home tonight!!

Do any of you get laughed at when you insist your bun isn’t well, or is unhappy?  I do!!    AND to be told by the boyfriend’s dad that "Brian is a vicious little thing, isn’t he" REALLY infuriates me, I mean what does he expect when he goes charging into the bedroom with a 2 year old, both of them lunging under the bed trying to grab Mr Bum whilst he was more than happy chillin’ out?!?!  Serves him right, the stupid man! Oops went off on one there…

Yah, my wife thinks I am totally nuts because if any of the buns don’t show up to eat their morning greens or pellets right away, I immediately get worried that they are sick and watch them like a hawk until I see them eat something.

I’m like that too Osprey, if I don’t get a breakfast dance I worry.

I absolutely can read my kidlets mood. I can tell if anybunny is in a bad mood, angry, upset or not feeling well. I do tend to worry, so sometimes I wonder if someone’s not feeling good, when in fact they’re just snoozy. I have had a few people who thought I was nutso – but then they come over and my buns win them over and they’re talking to them too, lol.

I’ve played nose wiggle with them too. Pandora seems to have the most communicative wiggle 🙂

Brian wasn’t overly enamoured by my attempts at nose wiggling last night, he was more interested in what the other half was doing on the sofa, stood up and watched him for a good few minutes (almost wobbled backwards several times, but managed to stay upright), when Brian was sure ‘papa’  was engrossed in his psp he kept charging at the boyfriends bare feet!  Then Bri decided he’d had enough of the stinking tootsies and plonked down in front of my face.  So i tried the nose wiggling again, he was having none of it, and just kept pushing his face harder into my mouth for big sloppy "raspberries".

I must have been doing something right, as he circled my feet as they dangled off the bed this morning, nudging & grunting as he went, before settling on the end of my slipperless foot to hump away in sheer heavenly bliss (it must have been bliss as he flopped out under the bed straight after, all that was missing was a passing of wind & a lit cigarette)  Mother was not best pleased, but realises the desperation for new slippers!!

That is actually one of the best ways I can notice if something is wrong!.  I think it is so important that I added a similar tip to the Bunny Pet Sitting Guide (for petsitters and  for people who will be having someone watch their bunny)    One of the daily health checks includes offering a favorite treat first thing.  If a bunny refuses his/her most favorite treat, then it’s an important sign to look more closely.

I had another go at wigglin’ earlier….. still being ignored : ( The boyfriend is much better than me, he even had an nteresting conversation with Josephine (who usually just looks confused, bless!). Apparently they both said they love their Daddy more and that Mummy’s mean ’cause she washed their butts today! I’m not sure that’s true?!
Our bunnies always take a little time to come for thier food.. especially fraidybun Josephine. If they said no to a raisin however, then I’d be worried!
