I was feeling so cosy in my bunny’s pen petting my bunny, Buddie, while he lay there enjoying it, that I started massaging him, just rubbing my fingers back and forth on different parts of his body, starting with his head, his nose, his forehead, temples, neck, shoulders, back, derriere.  He enjoyed the massaging so much that he gradually closed his eyes and dozed off!  There is a book written by an Englishwoman on how to give a rabbit massages that is very detailed and even has diagrams of a rabbit’s muscles and nervous system etc. but I just winged it massaging him as I would myself, or another person with very light and gentle, almost no pressure and he immediately took to it.  It’s enjoyable for the person giving the massage as well as for the animal.  Now that’s what I call, getting close!

The title of the book by Chandra Moira Beal is:  “The Relaxed Rabbit: Massage For Your Pet Bunny”

I got a copy of the Beal book on rabbit massage on eBay – I’ve seen it on eBay.uk and on Amazon.com as well. She shares co-authorship credit with her bunny, Maia, on the front cover, I guess she gets lots of the input she passes on, from her bunny!

I also have that book and really enjoy it. What I really like is that it not only teaches massaging techniques, but it also teaches anatomy of a rabbit, so that when you are massaging, you know what parts you are massaging, and what parts not to massage because it could hurt or cause injury. I found it really interesting to learn more about the rabbit anatomy, and really helpful.

My bun usually only likes her cheeks being rubbed but she’s been known to enjoy a good back rub every once in awhile.
