So I’m new to these forums and just wanted to introduce my bun Truffles with lots of pics
I love him so much and have developed a crazy bun obsession reading everything I can get my hands on. Lately I have become obsessed with searching petfinder looking at possible girlfriends for him. Kind of ridiculous when he will have to pick for himself but hey that’s what mom’s do
In order to get the girlfried he must first be neutered, which will happen in 2 weeks. I am TERRIFIED! I have a wonderful HRS endorsed rabbit savy vet who is amazing, and I sprung for the bloodwork even though he is young and healthy and it all came back looking great but STILL. I know he will be fine and even better afterwards and will not need the services of my panda slipper/bunny sex toy but I’m just so
nervous for his surgery so I could use some positive vibes
sorry for the weird photo placement not really sure what i did lol
Oh he’s such a cutie. Reminds me of Edson! He’ll be fine after his neuter. Don’t worry. Males recover pretty quickly. I see you have wire floors in his cage? You really should cover those as wire is so bad for their little feet. You can get linoleum and cut it to fit or grass mats or something. Just thought I’d pass that along as you love your little guy so much.
He is adorable! I had my Shadow done on the 22nd and I was a nervous wreck myself. He had one testicle that was not descended and took a little more effort. My vet was great, she kept him overnight, gave me pain meds for him and he was his bratty self in about a week. And I am amazed that in that short time, he stopped peeing all over the cats stuff and leaving poop markers around all his stuff.
This is a great bunch of people to “hold your hand” when you are getting nervous. And good that you had the blood work done when you first got him. For any animal (or people) it is good to have a base line to compare as he gets older. Plus you got to see the vet work with Truffle in a less stressful way. Its all good.
((((( Truffles ))))))))
What a sweetie pie! Welcome Truffles! I bet you are nervous, lots of good *healing vibes* for your guy and good luck in finding his lady-love! Ask away if you have any questions or to just chat in the lounge. Explore away, the world is your oyster! Oh yes and I must forewarn you, we talk about bunny poop a lot. =: ) LOL
oh ya i got the cage and truffles pre reading the house rabbit handbook and all of the online hrj articles lol. i actually posted a thread on the house rabbit Q&A forum about the fact that Truffles prefered the attacking and eating any grass mats or cardboard flooring to sitting on it. But per their suggestions I have zip tied the cardboard on now so he can only scratch at it which I figure is good exercise for him anyways. I am going to look for the peel and stick tiles mentioned as a floor option for NIC cages to make the flooring more durable/waterproof. also I will be building a NIC condo and or X-Pen set up for 2 when I move back home after graduation and Truffles gets a girlfriend.
Very cute bunny, welcome and enjoy the site, you will find a wealth of knowledge from a wonderful group of people.
aww he is cute i am worried about getting my bunny done but i need to wait about a month yet
you took an important step asking for help in your other thread. so much of bunny-slaving is about learning from others as well as learning from your own mistakes. i have to say, i learn something new about rabbits every single day on this site, which is awesome. our buns have an easier time of it b/c we can correct things before we end up with a problem. i know it is oh-so-tempting to get him a GF soon, but i would seriously consider waiting until you are home after graduation. there is a chance that even with bunny speed dating there may be a months or two (or three) worth of hard work ahead of you before they can live in the same space. what you may consider doing is bunny-dating and arranging things where they can both move to the new house at the same time. that way it would be new territory for both. he is an adorable bun! i can see him with a rabbit with some white on her, maybe spotted (or an all-white, red-eyed beauty!)
beka has a good point, if you are going to make a new condo then you should wait and have this set up so you can split it in two and put a bunny in each side (when both neutered) as they will probably bond better because of the neutural space – good luck
Your bun is very sweet. I love Holland Lops, they are so adorable.
welcome here truffles is so adoreable!
my pinky bun is officially scheduled to be spayed apr 3rd and i’m nervous too! it is very important to me to get the surgery done tho… my other bun – baby – is 7yrs old, which is too old to be spayed now and i am going to try to bond the 2 girls together. there’s no way it would work with both unspayed. and i can tell you first-hand about some of baby’s unspayed hormonal behaviours that would have been nice to have had eliminated or even reduced some (think flying pee). i had an un-neutered male bun before baby and i can tell you there was little difference between the 2 unaltered behaviours. too bad i didn’t know a rabbit savvy vet back then who would do alters. ah well… live & learn.
i’m glad you found this site… i was so happy to have found it myself! there sure is a great collective knowledge here. you’ll have to keep us posted about truffles neuter & recovery. from what i’ve read here the boys can bounce back fairly quick. you’ll be able to retire those furry slippers in no time
good advice beka. I am definitely going to wait to adopt. I really like your suggestion of adopting and then moving them together to neutral territory, but most places that will let you speed date like the HRS around here only adopt to people in their immediate area and won’t adopt to college students even though I don’t live in a dorm room I live in a house and having a rabbit is perfectly legal.
That being said this is the plan so far: I have found 3 possibilities for gf finding when I go home, Bunny Magic, Friends of Rabbits, and the Washington DC Area HRS, at least 2 of whom will handle the “bunymoon” for me and give me back a bonded pair at the end. I am constantly looking at their buns (teehee) even though I know its a long time away. I will make speed dating appointments with 1 or 2 of the places in a month or so for very soon after I get back. Until he finds a match Truffles will sleep in the guest bedroom in his cage in an X-Pen. I will at the same time be building his NIC condo in my bedroom and setting everything up for a pair. This space should be neutral to both bunnies so hopefully there won’t be any fighting when they come back from their bunnymoon.
So whadya think? Good plan? Or would dating soon after a move be a bad idea because Truffles will be too stressed?
your plan sounds perfect. so for the bunnymoon they board both rabbits and keep them together to bond? not a bad idea. good idea keeping Truffles in the guest room until… that should definitely help. Truffles might be little stressed, but being stressed should actually help the situation, not make it worse.
Surgery for a boy is less worrisome than for a girl, and vets are getting more practice than ever with the increasing awareness of the need for neutering/spaying bunnies.
Assuming it goes well, and I am sure it will, once it’s done you will probably have a vet you feel more secure about. It’s really a comfort to have a vet you trust, who knows you and your bun. I’m sure Truffles will do just fine. And he has something to look forward to: Girlfriends!!!
Him being able to have a girlfriend is really what sealed the deal for me. Even though I won’t be able to adopt for 2 months and Truffles will be picking his own bun I still check out the eligible bachelorettes on petfinder all the time I feel like I should be writing an advert for Truffles:
STAMR (single tortoise altered male rabbit) seeks SAFM (single altered female rabbit) for mutal grooming, cuddles, and long hops through the house. Likes: cardboard, willow balls, exploring new territory. Loves: panda slippers, feet, hay, and being naughty. Hates: being picked up, car rides, and veggies. If interested please call 555 HOT BUNS.
Teehee. IBut have to admit, though I won’t miss the spraying, I will miss some of Truffles’ hormone induced behavior like his running in non stop circles around me if I sit on the chair, and also his love affair with one of my old panda slippers. It is just so cute.
CAUTION bunny on inanimate object explicit photos below! lol
Meadow “courted” me before her spay. at first it was very sweet (foot nudges, running circles, endless pets), but it quickly turned to aggression. i really was counting down the days for her surgery. to my surprise, the bad behavior stopped immediately after, but she was still affectionate towards me! the nice thing is… i knew at that point she really did like me, and it wasn’t just hormones…
You go, Truffles. You don’t EVEN want to know what my foster boy, Toby did to a stuffed bunny before his neuter. Again, Again and again, the fiend was like the energizer bunny…lol
I think the personal ad is a great idea, I did one for my single bunny and sent it to the 2 rescues in Dallas, we got an invitation to one for an afternoon of speed dating and came home with a lovely girl, Lola. (thanks Sarita! her foster mom) because they knew a bit about him before hand they had several eligible ladies ready for him.

that page is amazing and so are your buns! not to meantion your NIC condo!!! how many squares did that take? It looks so awesome I really hope what I build turns out as well.
welcome welcome! yes, it sure sounds like Truffles is soon ready to be neutered. I am really glad you took the time to research and find a bunny savvy vet, that’s wonderful. I’m also happy that you’re going to adopt a rescue when he’s ready for a girlfriend too.
hehe so speaking of unspeakable acts with a stuffed animal…
today Truffles was doing his usual courting of my feet, when I used my usual distraction technique of pushing the panda slipper his way, thereby transfering his sexual attentions. But today Truffles got so caught up in his love fest, was gripping the panda so hard, and happened to be on the linoleum at the time, that he actually FLIPPED OVER on his back, all while still moving his little tail at the speed of light! Wish I had the camera
Welcome! Ah, that Panda slipper….probably didn’t even get dinner first.
lol, poor Panda slipper!
i think after the neuter you need to treat yourself to a new pair of slippers… (ew!)
Umn…I’ve never brought this up before (don’t want to embarass her) but Kokanee does that on towels, Kahlua and peoples arms (when seated on the ground) when she’s being very *amorous*….I’m not exactly sure, but I’m *Pretty* sure I know what she’s doing….Just before it happens, she lets out a hissy-oink and flips over (oh god, I’m at work snickering right now…help me)….
lol Beka don’t worry, that is actually one of my old pair. the bottoms got all worn out so I got a new pair for christmas. then, when Truffles first started falling in love with my feet (oh look hun how cute the bun wants to cuddle with. he is climbing up my leg to get in my lap. hmm he seems to be having some traction issue. ACK WHAT IS HE DOING!?!?) I gave him one of my old slippers instead as a proper outlet for his energies hehe.
its cute that Kahlua flips over. I’ve only ever seen Truffles flip over once, in the aforementioned over-humping incident teehee.
Truffles it really too adorable. Those eyes kill me!
Where abouts are you from, apanda?
thanks I’m glad you think hes cute! I stalk him a lot with the camera and so have tons and tons of pics to post hehe
I’m going to school at Vassar right now, which is in mid-state new york. not quite upstate, but not quite near enough to NYC to be NYC area lol. My home is near DC in Maryland. I’m a senior so that’s where I’ll be returning to with Truffles and hopefully adding a gf to our family soon!
the latest thing Truffles loves, not quite as much as the panda slipper but still a lot, is his x-12 pack hidey box. Its the cutest thing ever because he barely fits but hes in there all the time
That first picture of these 3 is so freaking cute!
These pix are adorable!!!
I was amazed every time I saw the whirlybird tail whenever Spockie tried to get amourous with my feet. I used to call his little private part “the toothpick.” It wasn’t frequent enough to be much of an issue, though I stopped wearing shorts and nightgowns because anything showing above my ankles seemed to get his attention. He actually would mostly just do his thing in his cage by himself. About 10 seconds tops. Then off to eat a snack, or maybe flop. (Reminds me of some guys…oh never mind.)
My friend had three bunnies for her twins and older daughter, who all had stuffed bears. The buns would go at the bears with great vigor, which my friend had to try to explain to the girls. They have a menagerie in their home now – kids, dog, cat, bunnies, guinea pigs – I think they had 8 pets at last count. She’s a good mom for all of them.
OK just when I was planning to get Edson a stuffed animal now I’m not! Is this a pre-neuter activity?????
i think they might still ”play” with an animal after the neuter… they still mount for dominance and stuff like that. i’ve also heard people say they will lick (groom) and cuddle up with an animal…
oh truffles! that slipper is getting a workout
lol rabbitpam you are too funny. one day, truffles was sitting peacefully napping upstairs in his cage, when all of a sudden he jumps to the floor, bolts out of the cage, and runs to the panda slipper, and starts humping it furiously! I thought it was so funny how he got such a strong urge all of a sudden, and thought it was even funnier to imagine if human males reacted the same way to hormone surges. teehee.
Truffles was probably thinking I’ll get that slipper one more time before Mum takes me to the Vet LOL.
The male human species … well the men in Perth are so slow … Truffles has more energy than the guys in Perth LOL.
Dawn xx
Yep, teenage boys, the same.
We girls probably didn’t know it, but in high school when the boys carried their books low (in front of their hips), or stood up and leaned over with their arms on their desks, they were covering an embarrassing moment. (I grew up with 2 brothers and no sisters.)
knowltons4,
I think getting Edson a stuffed toy is a good thing. It actually gives him his own outlet, like Truffles’, and he won’t bother you as much. You can always throw it in the wash. Seems the animals also like them for bonding if they don’t have another bun, or if they’re trying to get used to the scent of a new bun.
(Gee, something else to shop for as I get ready for a new bunny myself! Not for months though. Sigh. Maybe by next November.)
Well maybe I should. I don’t think Edson is a humper. Never seen him ever do anything like this. He’ll probably just ignore it like all the other toys he has…I’d want this stuffed rabbit to be safe. Where’s a good place to get one? I wonder if there are “green” toy shops????
my thought would be that there should not be button eyes b/c they could be chewed off and swallowed. other than that, i guess just keep an eye that he’s not ingesting the stuffing or something.
Right. Beka – do you have a stuffed animal for Meadow?
yes I was really worried about truffles chewing on the slipper because its pretty furry and I didn’t want him to get all that in his tummy. BUT luckily he only uses it for *one thing*. hehe such a man.
oh yes also BREAKING NEWS: TRUFFLES EATS HIS FIRST VEGGIES!!!! yes after 2 months of trying different combinations and on the 5th day of romaine lettuce, I woke up this morning to find he had eaten up all of his romaine salad with mint accents. teehee. first veggie and first herb ever for my boy, I feel like I should have a baby book to record these moments oh and just as I was getting ready to write this I caught truffles with a piece of lettuce hanging from his mouth as he sat in the litterbox! but unfortunately after my cameracameracamerawheresthedarncamera routine and finally turned the dang thing on truffles noticed all the extra attention and dropped the leaf. *sigh* I need a cam embedded in my glasses like James Bond hehe. so unfortunately no adorable pic to illustrate this post but hopefully one day soon.
no animals for Meadow. except if Michael leaves a stuffed toy around she’ll bite at it for a minute until he picks it up. i’m thinking about getting her an animal if i find a suitable stuffed bunny at the store.
i had to take away the stuffed tiger i gave to my first bun after he tore off the head & started eating the stuffing >.<
caught him at it! here’s the proof, truffles eats romaine!
This was a toy I used to collect when I was young, called googles…They look like playtypus’s but without front arms…Anyways, here’a pic of one;
http://playfulplushtoys.com/miva/graphics/00000001/lkgoogles.jpg
I gave Rupert one since he’s all by himself right now, He hasn’t groomed it but he did pee on it at the vets LOL
omg I totally had one of those when I was little. he was called quakers! actually I think I probably still have him somewhere in my attic or something. he would be way to big for truffles though, I think he was a bout twice truffles’ size. prolly a little intimidating lol.
Since we’re talking about favorite stuffed animals
I thought I’d show you my bunny. I got him at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Center in the Berkshires a few years ago, and as you will see, he has ballet slippers for feet. He is made of beans, so I never let Spockie near him, for fear that a bite of bunny would result in spilling the beans. (Not edible for little live bunnies.)
In the last few months I have taken to hugging him alot when I miss my little guy. He’s about the right size and very squishy.
