Trixie Hutches!

 Ok so I dont really like the idea of keeping a rabbit outside and forgetting about him/her and leaving them to the elements, but I came across this hutch when I was looking for ideas to expand Tipsy’s living quarters (as she is getting much bigger) and I thought, if I had the money and the back yard, I would totally have this as a nice weather exercise area, just for those beautiful days to have my buns out!  The hutch is gorgeous!  No wire bottoms!  A little attic window, 2 stories, the roof is on hinges, and there is a little person door!  Oh my gosh, seriously, if I had the money and the backyard, cause I have the nice weather, now I just need the home.  But anyways, I dont know if anyone has heard of the company, but its called Trixie Natura and they make very high quality hutches! and each one I have seen does not have a wire bottom, that makes me happy

Yes they are nice aren’t they! I would totally get one but I built my own this summer that I am happy with. I am sure bunnies would love it though!

I’m going to make my dad build a better outdoor play hutch for Nava once spring hits. I’d like her to be able to run around and dig outside in a safe area.

Its pretty, but I still don’t like hutches :/ From what I’ve seen the niceness of the wood doesn’t seem to last very long. It seems like it would be really easy for a bun to just dig under the wall too, but I’m sure there’s a fix to that.

yeah, I would only ever use those if I am outside and it was super nice bunny weather out, they seem perfect for when you are outside making barbeque or constantly coming in and out of the house and checking up on them, cause its suited to be a home but not a permanent home.  I just really like the idea of them being able to get down to the grass and just the fact that there is no wire bottoms is something you dont see in a hutch.

At the guinea pig rescue I was helping at they had Trixie stuff but nothing like this and they could be difficult to get. It was more of the hamster stuff (wooden houses) – no rabbit stuff. I think they are a German company. Their wooden homes and stuff are very popular at the rescue store too.

You can use an x-pen outside to keep her in when you are out there – easier to assemble and remove.

I agree with others about the wood. My parents did not allow me to have my bunnies in the house when I first got them. Lulu was in a hutch and only lived their about a month before she came inside and by the time I let her in the house she had chewed the whole inside of the door of the hutch almost all the way through! She could have escaped! Probably wouldn’t happen if they were only out side for a few hours under supervision, but it still scares me.

Here is my outside pen I made. It is made out of sheet metal and has plastic fencing on top. I also have a tarp and another type of fencing that can go on top for more protection but I haven’t built all the frames yet. Hopefully they will all be built soon.
