My rabbit Luna is an adult rabbit who was adopted a couple weeks ago from our local SPCA. We’ve been learning how to trim her nails without her squirming too much and today was the first time I got a look at her nails on her hind legs. I think all her nails are too long at the moment, likely as a result of her lack of trimming from her previous owners. I don’t think they are currently causing her any pain but I want to do everything I can to help the quick recede. We did our best to trim her nails to the quick but the quick is quite long, especially on her hind feet. I would say they are about 1.5-2 cm currently. When we got her checked at the rabbit- savvy vet they said long nails are normal for rabbits but what would be considered normal? We also accidentally trimmed one of the nails too short, but thankfully we had some styptic power and now everything seems fine. I’d like some advice or to hear about your experiences of rabbits with long nails. Right now my plan is to try and trim a little bit off her nails every week until the quick recedes, but I’m not sure how long it will take to get her to healthy nails. Also, will we have to leave the nail we cut too short alone for a few weeks?
