How much treats are too much?  I was told fruits should be only 2-3 times week.  What kinds of things do you give your bunnies?

I think many people give a tiny bit of sweets per day. As in, a slice of banana. Or 2 or 3 raisins. I give a papaya tablet every day as a treat, and usually a small bit of tomato or carrot too as I have them coming fresh out of the garden daily right now. On days when I don’t, usually a papaya tablet and a raisin. I haven’t seen any mushy poops or anything from that amount, or weight gain. Sometimes if bun is begging and I’m feeling bad I’ll feed one or two pellets as a treat, since he loves them and it’s at least better than sugary fruits.

Rabbit.org guidelines say no more than 2oz (2TBL) per 6 lb of weight daily of fruit.

Some bunnies are more sensitive than others. My bunny Bailey could not handle much of anything sweet– one raisin would give her poopy butt.

Carrots, used to be considered very high in sugar, are okay to give in moderation with their greens. And so I sprinkle that on their greens. I don’t really consider it a treat so much as just a smaller portion of their bunny salad now.

Jack gets a slice of banana everyday because I mix some stuff for his arthritis in.

They also get dried cranberries (like craisins) — I actually try my best to find the organic kind that does not have added sugar— difficult to find because it’s not as tasty to humans without some sweetener. I normally tear the cranberry up into several pieces so they can feel like they are getting more! I do have to watch myself though as I can be like any other rabbit slave and get suckered in even when I know better!

The HRS guidelines regarding fruit are as follows: fruit daily ration no more than 1 oz. to 2 oz. per 6 lbs. body weight (because of calories)

Eyore loves craisins. I gave him a bite of plum yesterday and he liked it too. I have to give him a treat so I can pick him up easier with him preoccupied to take him upstairs to his pin. His favorite is dried papaya I get at the Rabbit House Society, It is the low sugar kind. I shake the jar and he is already begging.

mine get a few raisins about 1-2 times a month. their out in the yard all day so they dont get much along the lines of veggies (one big salad a week roughly / also due to restrictions) but for treats my neihbor has a pear tree so they get a peice of pear everyday. or normally i share a banana with them (i’ll sit in the middle of their cages and we share the banana (me, hershey, twix. me hershey twix)

That’s so cute Mir! I can you three snarfing up a banana. I’m not a big fan of banana (for myself), but my husband loves them so he shares with the buns from time to time. You’ve never seen so much tail twitching!

I give a couple little (and I mean tiny) bits of dried papaya every day usually. I cut them up very small so I can give 4 or 5 without feeling guilty – the total size of the pieces put together is still less than my thumb, which I’ve read is a good size indicator for fruit. Neither of my bunnies seem to have issues with digesting sugar.

I also love to use pellets as treats. I can give a huge amount without making much of a dent in their daily rations because pellets are so small. They’re not as crazy about them as papaya, but they get plenty excited for a piece of pellet and don’t realize it’s not a treat.

Some treats I give are; Dried or fresh pineapple & papaya, canned pumpkin (when sedding), Crasins, Rasins, Baby carrot, vegan dog cookies, papaya tablets, yogert covered papaya, and sometimes those commercial carrot wafter things. If i am cutting up strawberries, I give the bunnies the tops.
I don’t feed banana even though everyone LOVES it, as one of my bunnies get’s a bad poo bum from even the smallest amount. But freeze dried banana or banana in rabbit cookies are ok.

My bunnies get crasins every night, and yes more then one … lol I try to give them a cookie or carrot since it’s their Dad, who i have nick-named the ‘candy man’ who feeds every bunny a crasin (or two) the Degus, Gerbil and hamsters all get a peanut. This is a goodnight ritual when he get’s home from his night shift 4 nights a week. It’s cute to watch a room of critters all jumping around and begging at once (I don’t get that kind of attention mean Mom who medicates and brushes them & cleans their cages lol)

My bunny enjoys dried papaya also.

I will shake the jar and she will come running and even hops into my lap! Which is something that she never does.. Only for the yum yums, huh?

Beka, please. This website is rated PG. I don’t want to hear any more about your husband’s tail twitching.

I give Sammy the Oxbow (expensive, I know) veggie or timothy treat cookies. They’re really just the usual fibre stuff ground up and shaped into cookies, so they are like more hay and pellets, but she likes them.

I am going to get some of those. Just so I don’t overdo it on fruit. I shook the craisin bag last night and boy did he come running. Same thing with his papaya jar. Makes me laugh everytime.
